I am preparing for 2013 CAT. I got 65 percentile in CAT12. Will the two years gap affect in getting admission into IIMs and other top B - schools ?
(Sai Sandeep , India)View answer
Dear Sandeep, thank you for posting your query in the Know & Apply section of MBAUniverse.com.
Sandeep , you have appeared CAT 2012 and now u are preparing for CAT 2013 this shows you confidence on your self that’s a good thing.
Work experience counts when the selection process is on. If u would have joined a job and side by side prepared for CAT that would have helped you a lot. Your two years gap will be noticed when you are in the GD PI round. If you have good score in written test and have good academic background you will reach the GD PI round .In this round you will be asked about the two years gap so prepare a good answer to this question.
There is nothing to be disheartened because by doing well in the written and GD PI round you can overcome this situation.
You can do self preparation or can join any good coaching centre to prepare for the same. In your case an on-line preparation strategy will be the best as it will save your time, travelling hazard, will be cost effective and even missing the classes will not be an issue. MBAUniverse.com is also running its on-line prep classes. For details about the classes, you can go through the following link:

Despite of studying articles and practicing questions regularly, I am not able to score good marks in mock tests. Is it normal? Please help me .This is demoralizing me ?
(Nishant Garg , Madhya Pradesh)View answer
Dear Nishant thanks to post your query on MBAUniverse.com Do not let the marks of Mock test demoralize you.
Mock test are just a tool to help you managing time, test your speed, etc. You should try to avoid doing full length Mock Test in the early days. On the contrary, try to take individual Mock Test for each section or even each topic. This will help you to manage your whole syllabus topic wise. This will also help you to find out the problematic topics and focus more on them. Also take note of the time that you are taking in finishing a particular question. Try to minimize your test time as less as possible.

I have not scored well in my academic career. In 10th std. I scored 57%, in 12th 60% and in graduation 55%. I want to take the CAT 2013. Is there any chance to get a call from top B- Schools ?(amit kumar , Allahabad)
View answer
Dear Amit Kumar thanks to post your query on MBAUniverse.com, once you qualify the test, you will be called for group discussion and interview, as they conduct a personal interview which is the last leg of final selection process. Your performance in your class 10th and +2 examination might influence your interview. For instance, if two candidates have same score in CAT and graduation and have performed equally well in the group discussion, the one with a better overall academic record will be given preference. To appear in CAT you should have min. 50% in Bachelor degree from a recognized university. -
I am interested in CAT and XAT. What are the important topics that should be covered during preparation to get good score ? What are the subjects that need more attention?(Shekhar , Bhubaneswar / Orissa)
View answer
Generally the MBA entrance Exams are divided in two sections, as follows
Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
Verbal Ability and Logical ReasoningWhich part needs more attention varies from student to student .A student needs to pay more attention to his week areas. But few things that I would like to add is ,the basic requirement for both these sections is a good vocabulary and a strong sense of grammar. As the questions can be from any general topic -- economics, psychology, philosophy, sociology, politics, medicine, science, culture, arts, etc -- it is important to inculcate good reading habits.

I have a query regarding requirement of prior job experience in selection process of CAT. Generally, prior experience from which sectors attracts more weightage... Please suggest, whether prior experience in a banking job(like Bank PO) will be fitting case for it?
(sai pranab , Bhubaneswar / Orissa)View answer
Job experience is not mandatory but if you have job experience it adds to your rating, like 1,2 ,3 rating will be added for one year , one -two years and more than two years of experience , respectively.
If you want to do specialization in banking , finance etc experience in the field of banking will be an added advantage as it will add to your rating.

I am 2012 passed out. I have completed my emgineering in Computer Science. Is it right to go for CAT 2013. I have no work experince and i will be having 2years drop if i appear for CAT 2013.
