Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2017 will have 72 questions divided in 3 sections in part-1. Part-2 of XAT 2017 will consist of 25 questions in MCQ format on General Awareness (GK) and an essay writing test on a given topic.

The separate section of Essay Writing can be completed in 25 minutes while GK should be completed in 10 minutes out of the total allotted time limit of 3½ hours to solve the entire test paper. How important is Essay Writing Test in XAT 2017
Essay Writing will play an important role in XAT 2017. A lot depends on it in finalising the admission to the desired Management College in and after getting shortlisted.

Weightage of Essay Writing in XAT 2017
According to Prof. S.K. Agarwal, Verbal Ability Expert and mentor on XAT preparation ‘XAT awards great importance to the writing ability of future managers and accordingly place high weightage to this test’.

lthough the percentile is based on MCQ test in XAT, total marks cannot be awarded without obtaining marks in Essay Writing Test. Its weightage becomes more prominent in final admission round.

Essay Writing section is of 25 minutes duration and is very important part of admission criteria in XLRI for admission 2017. Essay Writing in XAT 2017 will be a 25 minutes’ test. XAT 2017 exam pattern is revised again
XAT 2017 will be divided in two parts with 3 sections in part-1 and 25 questions in part-2 followed by Essay Writing Test

Part-1: 3 sections 72 MCQs
Part-1 in XAT 2017 exam will have 3 sections with 72 Multiple choice questions (MCQs) to be attempted in 170 minutes as total time allotted to attempt

1. Verbal and Logical Ability – 24 MCQs
2. Decision Making – 21 MCQs
3. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation – 27 MCQs

Part-2: 25 GK MCQs & Essay Writing Test
The second part of XAT 2017 test paper will have to be solved in 35 minutes. It will consist of 25 MCQs on General Awareness (GK) and an Essay topic on which a good essay of around 300 to 400 words should be written.

The 25 GK questions should be attempted in 10 minutes and the rest 25 minutes must be used to gather your thoughts to write a well worded essay on the given topic.

The marks of General Knowledge will not be used for determining the percentile and cut off at first stage of selection. Your performance in Essay Writing test will be a key parameter in the admission process of top B-schools including XLRI, Jamshedpur.

Candidates having been tested on objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will also be tested on real life driven written communication skill based on wider perspective on important issues of our times. The candidates in XAT are tested on both the counts. Their performance in essay writing will also form the base of their final selection round.

Skill you need for Essay Writing in XAT 2017
XAT 2017 Essay Writing test aims to search the right person who can express his thoughts well in a written form and who is well read and well informed about the various prevailing important national and international issues as well as their effects on businesses. It will definitely have its due impact on business managers. Besides it conveys whether the aspirant is free from biases and is able to understand the things without prejudice.

The 30 minute essay writing test means you should write a well worded essay of about 350-400 words. To achieve this goal you must have prepared well and practiced well keeping in mind how to outline the essay, what material you should read to improve your writing skills, how to begin, what contents you should place in the essay body and ultimately how to close the writing piece.

XAT 2017 will be a 3½ hours test to be held on January 8, 2017 in paper pen mode in a single session from 10AM to 1.30PM with no break during the exam, in 47 cities in India and in Dubai & Kathmandu abroad.
After completion of Part-1 in 170 minutes there will be 5 minutes allotted as turnaround time before beginning of the Part-2 of XAT 2017 exam comprising GK and essay writing in total time of 35 minutes.
