K J Somaiya (SIMSR) Mumbai hosts Global Supply Chain Management Conference 2016; Opens PGDM 2017 admission

K J Somaiya organized its 4th Global Supply Chain Conference on the theme SCM 2020 - An Ocean of Opportunities and has also opened its admission process for PGDM 2017 - 19

Carrying a legacy of 58 years as part of Somaiya Vidyavihar  that was esblished in 1959,  K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) Mumbai organized its 4th Global Supply Chain Conference on December 16, 2016. The theme selected for the event was SCM 2020 – An Ocean of Opportunities. The conference was organised by the Operations Deptt. of SIMSR and co-ordinated by FORSE – Operations Student Committee, SIMSR.

The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker for the Conference was Dr. Howard James Scott, Supply Chain head at Flipkart/Flipskool University. He captured the whole hearted attention of the audience with his talk on the need for grass root level experience for those students deciding to pursue their Management degree in Operations. His experience at leading organization GATI and Flipkart was motivational.

The Guest of Honor was Mr. Santanu Guha, Deputy General Manager, L&T Construction and a Civil engineer with more than 20 years of experience in the field.  Mr. Guha shared his detailed experience and challenges faced in the development of the new Mumbai International Airport.

24 selected research papers were presented and were published into a book with ISBN Number. The book contains 10 papers from faculty and students of DHBW Stuttgart University, Germany. Also the final rounds of Sanrachna – a case study competition and X-Quiz-It - an Operations quiz for students from different colleges were conducted.

The 2nd half of the conference was graced by Mr. Surendra Deodhar, Head Materials Management at Reliance Life Sciences. He spoke about the growing use of IT in the world of operations.

The day ended with a Round Table conference moderated by Dr. J S Lamba, Head of Operations and Chairman of GSCM. The panel included eminent persons from the industry including Dr. Deepak Jakate Managing partner at Envision Management Services, Brig. Dr. M K Nag (Retd) former Director at MET Bandra, Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Abraham George Head Operations Management area SPJIMR, Mr. Tarun Dev proprietor at Shanir Management Service and Mr. Surendra Deodhar. Topics discussed were relevance of studying Supply Chain Management, SCM after demonetization of currency, unemployment due to increasing use of technology in operations, etc.

Admission to PGDM, PGDM (IB), PGDM (RM), PGDM (FS) and PGDM (Comm) for 2017-19 batch is open now at K J Somaiya.

To apply for admission at K J Somaiya you have to appear in one of the Admission Tests namely CAT 2016, CMAT 2017, XAT 2017 & GMAT till Feb 10, 2017 (for Foreign National / NRI / PIO/ Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries).

A candidate can apply for more than one PGDM programmes (PGDM / IB / RM / FS / Comm) with an online application fee of Rs.2450 for Indian Nationals and Rs.3,500 for NRI and FN / PIO / CIWGC under the supernumerary quota of 18 seats in PGDM Programme2 years tuition fee at KJ Somaiya, Mumbai is Rs. 9.58 lakhs. Hostel charges are extra. Last date of submission of Application Form is February 10, 2017.
