IIM Rohtak will conduct the Common Admission Process (CAP) for admission into the 9 IIMs for the batch of 2017-19 in 5 cities and will announce the dates shortly.
With the increased intake for PGP 2017-19 batch in almost all the IIMs and with the announced policy of shortlisting 10 to 12 times candidates for PI round, 12000 candidates would be called for CAP 2017 Round

IIM Rohtak will conduct the Common Admission Process (CAP) for admission into the 9 IIMs for the batch of 2017-19. Post announcement of CAT 2016 results, the shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Analysis (WA) for admission into IIM Rohtak, Ranchi, Raipur, Trichy, Kashipur, Udaipur, Amritsar, Bodh Gaya and Sambalpur. IIM Rohtak which also conducted the first CAP, will share the results with the other IIMs post evaluation. Last year, the CAP was conducted by IIM Kashipur.

Each of the 9 IIMs follows different shortlisting criteria. For instance, this year IIM Rohtak, for its 8th batch of Post Graduate Programme, has decided to give more weightage to female and non-engineering background students while shortlisting students to ensure a healthy mix of candidates from diverse backgrounds. This criterion for each IIM is included in their admission policy available on the website of each IIM.

Students shortlisted for some older IIMs might not have to appear for the CAP, as some of the older IIMs will share their PA scores with IIM Rohtak. Those candidates who have been called by more than 1 older IIM will have their scores averaged across the IIMs where they have been interviewed. Finally, the scores of PA Process will be shared with the other IIMs participating in CAP, who will then make their own merit lists according to the normalized scores.

CAP round in 5 cities
Now, instead of 6 IIMs, there would be 9 IIMs who would participate in Common Admission Process (CAP) 2017 being coordinated by IIM Rohtak. The admission policy of the IIMs displayed alongwith the admission criteria of IIM Trichy, Udaipur, Raipur, clarifies “The Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test would be conducted at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. The exact date for PI & WAT will be communicated to the short¬listed candidates by IIM Rohtak which is co-ordinating for 2017-19 batch on behalf of IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM  Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya & IIM Sambalpur (also referred to as “9 IIMs”).

12000 candidates in CAP round
Since the CAP round used to be conducted only for 6 IIMs earlier, IIM Rohtak shares about the admission process of these 6 IIMs “The six new IIMs coordinating the PA process 2017, viz., IIM Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Trichy and Udaipur, are together likely to call candidates for the PA process about 10-12 times (or more if decided so later) their total number of seats. However, in case any of the six older IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore, Kozhikode and Lucknow) are willing to share their PA scores with the six new IIMs, wherever IIM Rohtak’s (and other five new IIMs) shortlist is common with the sharing older IIMs, the common candidates will not be required to appear for PA process separately with IIM Rohtak (and five other new IIMs). The common candidates will be intimated in due course of time, on the names of older IIMs sharing PA scores with IIM Rohtak (and five other new IIMs).

With the increased intake for PGP 2017-19 batch in almost all the IIMs and with the announced policy of shortlisting 10 to 12 times candidates for PI round, it appears that no fewer than 12000 candidates would be called for CAP 2017 round.

Most IIMs with same shortlisting criteria
Except IIM Rohtak, all other IIMs namely IIM Kashipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Raipur, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur have same shortlisting criteria. With the announcement of 3 more IIMs participating in CAP 2017, it appears that same admission policy has been adopted by these 3 newest IIMs.
