Your score in MAT 2017 February exam will decide your admission chances in 400 top MBA colleges across the country and around the same number in the state of Maharashtra only. Since only 4-5 days are left for paper based MAT 2017 February exam to be held on February 5 in a single session in 51 exam cities in India, toppers and experts share how to add 100 more marks by following a few last minute key tips.

Understand the MAT 2017 scoring pattern
MAT 2017 with 200 questions has 5 sections and there are 40 questions in each section. Score of one of the 5 sections, Indian & Global Environment carrying 200 marks will not be included in calculation of percentile score in MAT 2017 February exam as per the earlier practice by AIMA. You need to score high in the 1st 4 sections Quant, English Language Comprehension, Reasoning, Data Interpretation & sufficiency which are also relevant to CAT/XAT/CMAT and other MBA entrance exams.

Scores are awarded in the range of 0 to 100 and it is rare to get a scaled score below 20 or above 80. The composite scores for the 4 percentile calculating sections are reported on a scale of 200 to 800. AIMA finds it rare that a candidate scores below 200 or above 800. Therefore, the all composite scores below 200 are reported as 199 and all above 800 are reported as 801. 

Check the key Syllabus topics
The very first thing to add more marks to your score is to understand the MAT exam pattern which comprises 5 sections with 40 questions in each section. Along with the exam pattern you should be aware about the time limit within which you must complete your sectional attempts and save your time to attempt questions from other sections.

As advised by the experts, you should thoroughly check MAT syllabus on which entire MAT exam pattern is based. The topics emerging from the MAT syllabus would remain the same although questions could be in different forms.

Take different LoD Mocks
All the toppers who have scored high in past MAT exams have advised to keep on practicing with variety of MAT Mocks on different level of difficulty instead of beginning anything new from the syllabus at this point as you may lose track of whatever you have prepared so far.

Time management during the MAT exam is the key to success as there are 200 questions in MCQ format to be attempted in 2 and half hours only. So you have less than 1 minute to attempt one question.

The main query from the aspirants is what should be the strategy in a short time of 4-5 days that could boost the score in MAT 2017 February exam. Those who are hopeful and are working hard to score high in MAT 2017 on February 5, should take care and practice more Mocks in accordance with the choice they have opted - Paper based test or CBT pattern of MAT 2017.

Assess your sectional preparation with key topics 
Language comprehension
According to Prof S K Agarwal, Verbal Ability Expert and mentor on MAT preparation, out of 40 questions in language Comprehension section 10 are supposed to be based on vocabulary comprising synonyms-antonyms, jumbled words and picking odd man out, inserting correct words to fill in the blanks. There are expected 4-5 comprehension passages followed by 4 questions each. Other questions are supposed to be based on jumbled paragraphs, core grammar usage, summary/main thought essence of paragraphs. Questions are supposed to be moderately difficult and are expected to be answered in 30 minutes, if you attempt the section with due concentration.

If you are ready with all these topics, you may expect to score high percentile in this section.

Mathematical Skills
This section in MAT 2017 February exam is expected to have a major share of questions based on Arithmetic like Percentages, Profit and Loss, Time and Work, Averages etc. The difficulty level is expected to be moderate but may consume a bit more time. Candidates with more practice will be able to solve more of the questions within prescribed time. Those who can attempt this section with accuracy may expect a higher score.

Other favourite topics on which questions may be based are LCM/HCF; Probability; Mensuration; Geometry among others. If you have prepared them well, you could score higher than your peers in the exam.

Intelligence and critical reasoning
Favourite MAT topics on which the questions in this section are proposed are Assertions reasons, Family tree, analogies, Direction, series, cause & effect, calendar, distribution, assertions.  The section is supposed to have moderate level of difficulty but may be more time consuming. Make sure that you have covered all of them.

Data analysis and Sufficiency
70% of the questions in this section are expected to be on data interpretation. Pie charts, bar diagrams, charts, line graph, and data comparison are the main areas on which the questions are expected in this section. A few questions may be time consuming but overall the questions are supposed to have moderate difficulty level.

Indian and Global environment
Most of the B schools accepting MAT 2017 February scores keep this section as qualifying, although it is an integral part of MAT question paper. Scoring well in this adds to your scores and your score card also reflects it. In the final admission round good B schools consider the score in this section also.

Questions in this section are based on conventional GK, business and economics, current affairs, International events, Who’s who. 15 minutes is a sufficient time to answer this section.

Don’t begin anything new
Prof S K Agarwal, Verbal Ability expert and mentor on MAT preparation is of the view that during the next 5 days, you should not begin anything new and must concentrate on what you have prepared. It will be better to further strengthen your strong areas instead of working out on such areas that consume more of your time. Since MAT 2017 February exam is not going to be a very difficult as it never is, candidates should devote more time to revise and practice more mock tests.

Around 20000 candidates are expected to appear in MAT 2017 February paper based test on February 5 to explore admission in MBA 2017-19.
