JBIMS Mumbai proposes to conduct its own admission test along with the PI round and a proposal to this effect has been sent to Government of Maharashtra
If the proposal gets nod from the Government of Maharashtra, JBIMS would be able to offer admission to 60 students of All India category in MBA 2017-19 batch

Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) Mumbai proposes to conduct its own admission test along with the PI round without participating in DTE-CAP 2017. The chances are more that JBIMS may conduct its own MBA entrance test opening the gates for more candidates in All India category.

Proposal already sent
A proposal to this effect has already been sent by JBIMS to the Government of Maharashtra for its nod and it is expected that it may be acceded to by the Government after some modifications. JBIMS had earlier also sent such a proposal to Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra but it was summarily rejected by the Government body controlling technical education in the state on the ground that the Maharashtra state has the law according to which only deemed universities are allowed to have own admission mechanism but the institutes are not allowed to conduct the same.

Cherry on the cake is that JBIMS has not gone on back-foot and is still pushing for its own admission mechanism. Accordingly, even after not-approving this JBIMS proposal, the DTE Maharashtra has suggested JBIMS to submit again its revised proposal clarifying why the premier MBA college needs its own separate admission test to be conducted by it.

A few days ago, JBIMS again submitted its updated proposal to the Government of Maharashtra as well as to the CET Cell that conducts entrance exams for admission including the MAH-CET MBA/MMS entrance test.

60 seats for All India Candidates proposed
JBIMS offers admission to maximum number of 18 candidates of Non-Maharashtra state category at present. The B-school proposes to increase this number.

JBIMS Mumbai has a total intake of 120 candidates. Out of them only 15% candidates of non-Maharashtra category can get admission in JBIMS and rest 85% have to be from Maharashtra state category only.

The new proposal submitted by JBIMS provides for 50-50 quota for Maharashtra State and All India and other category candidates. If the proposal gets nod from the Government of Maharashtra, JBIMS would be able to offer admission to 60 students of All India category in MBA 2017-19 batch as against present 18 candidates only.

Earlier Announced admission policy withdrawn
In the month of December 2016 JBIMS Mumbai had announced its admission policy for MMS 2017-19 and confirmed that it proposed to open its MMS 2017-19 admission application process in the month of January 2017, around 2 months before the MAHCET MBA/MMS 2017 exam which is scheduled to be held on March 4 & 5, 2017 across the country.

The earlier announced admission policy of JBIMS categorically stated that the B-school would not participate in DTE-CAP 2017 for MBA admission 2017. JBIMS proposed to conduct its own PI round. It said that only CAT 2016 and MAH-CET 2017 scores would be acceptable for MBA admission.  But, even before JBIMS could start the application process for admission to MMS 2017-19, it removed all the admission related details from its website. This has further created speculation whether the B-school proposes to change its admission policy again and whether the B-school would entirely conduct its own admission process including written entrance test.

JBIMS Mumbai is one of the top MBA colleges of India but during the past 3 years especially since it was awarded the status of autonomous management institute in 2014, it has changed its admission process every year. Due to the frequent shift in its admission policy, JBIMS has been creating an environment of uncertainty and panic among the candidates.

Although it is not awarded the status of deemed university, the B-school deserves all the benefits of a deemed university if we look at its legacy, status, learning, industry connect, campus placement among others. JBIMS is the dream B-school for MBA aspirants and in all probability the proposal submitted by JBIMS to Government of Maharashtra may get the nod of the Government paving the way for JBIMS to conduct its own admission process.

Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) Mumbai is one of the 3 highest ranked B schools in Maharashtra with SPJIMR and NMIMS and is one of the top 15 B schools in India. JBIMS, a Mumbai University B-school, was granted the status of Autonomous institute in late 2014. The B school has a low fee structure as the fee is decided by the Shikshan Shulka Samiti, Maharashtra. JBIMS has the legacy of 100% placement record with high average placement packages. The Return on Investment at JBIMS is high and the Alumni base is large and is spread all over the world.
