Convocation '08: MDI Gurgaon offers diplomas and honors to 356 candidates

The Gurgaon-based Management Development Institute (MDI) organized its convocation ceremony for the 356 graduates from its seven programmes on March 6, 2008.

The ceremony was presided by Mr Anand G Mahindra, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra, who inspired the management graduates recalling the spirit of ancient master Doronacharya as the MDI is based in the city of Guru Dronachraya.

Addressing the convocation Mr Anand G Mahindra, said, "World is heading to a period of immensely disruptive change with globalization of knowledge. The only way to deal with this change is to be at the forefront and be at giving rather than a receiving end of change. Innovation will have to come to all the future managers as naturally as breathing. Your generation will have to unleash the arrows of ongoing innovation that will keep India's ball bouncing in the 21st century. This is intellectual challenge."

Other than Mr Mahindra, N K Singh, Chairman of the Board of Governors, MDI, and Sujit K Basu, Director, MDI also shared their mantras with the students. While congratulating the students -- who received diplomas and laurels during the convocation -- Dr Basu said: "I also want to remind the students that we, at the institute, eagerly await you fulfilling the needs of the nation, with the skills and knowledge that you have acquired at MDI."

Mr N K Singh, Chairman of the Board of Governors, MDI, emphasized on inclusive growth of India for which human resource development is major issue. He said, "We need to think that how we can combine knowledge value for inclusive growth of India. Human resource development issues need to engage our attention. We need to harness India's talent."  

In all, 356 candidates received their diplomas at the function. A break-up of the 356 students graduating from MDI this year: 115 were from the 13th batch of its two-year full-time postgraduate program in management (PGPM); 32 belonged to the 3rd batch of its postgraduate program in human resource management (PGP-HRM); 24 were from postgraduate program in international management (PGP-IM), 84 National Management Programme (NMP), 45 postgraduate diploma in management (Part-Time PGP), 51 Postgraduate Energy Management (PGPEM) program and 3 Doctoral Program (Fellow Program in Management).

Dr Basu further added: "At this time when India is well poised for growth, when the horizon has just started brightening up and when the entire world is looking for fresh leadership, we optimistically and proudly look upon you in your roles as the change agents who will fill the void." 

In his closing word to MDI graduates Mr Mahindra said, "Much of India has changed and you are the symbols of shining young India. You are first generation in 400 years who are truly free and also the generation that can take India unprecedented level of prosperity."
