The moderate difficulty level MAT exam pattern is based on the conventional MAT syllabus with easy and common topics in all its 5 sections. According to MAT toppers, if you solve more and more MAT sample papers and past MAT question papers in next 15 days, you can get a high score in the paper pen based MAT 2017 May exam.

 

The May MAT entrance exam 2017 in paper pen format will be held on May 7, 2017 in a single session across the country. MAT exam registration form can be purchased latest by April 25 at a cost of Rs.1400/- , if you wish to apply offline for MAT 2017. You can also download the May MAT 2017 registration form from the AIMA website and fill it up, if you want to make payment of MAT registration fee by demand draft. The last date to submit the MAT registration form is April 28.

Know the MAT Exam pattern 2017

May MAT 2017 exam will be an objective type test with multiple-choice Questions (MCQs). The test will be divided among 5 key sections on which questions will be formed. The sections are - Language Comprehension, Mathematical skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Indian and Global Environment.

 

Each of the 5 sections will have 40 questions making it a total of 200 questions to be solved in 150 minutes.

4 sections are important to score high

Scores of first 4 sections in MAT entrance exam 2017 will determine your percentile and merit position as the calculation of percentile is done in MAT entrance exam by keeping the 5th section on Indian and Global Environment out.

 

There is equal score weightage for the 1st four sections in MAT exam. The maximum score of 160 is scaled to 800 and there are many candidates in MAT exam who are awarded 800/800 making their percentile score at 100. The scores of 5th section are separately shown in your MAT score card after MAT result is declared.

Questions in MAT 2017 May exam are supposed to be moderately difficult and are expected to be answered in 30 minutes, if you attempt the section with due concentration. If you are ready with all these topics, you may expect to score high percentile in this section.

 

Mathematical Skills

The 40 questions on Mathematical skills in May MAT 2017 exam are expected to be of matriculation standard. This section in MAT 2017 May exam is expected to have a major share of questions based on Arithmetic like Percentages, Profit and Loss, Time and Work, Averages etc. The difficulty level is expected to be moderate but may consume a bit more time. Candidates with more practice will be able to solve more of the questions within prescribed time. Those who can attempt this section with accuracy may expect a higher score.

Data analysis and Sufficiency

70% of the 40 questions in this section in May MAT 2017 exam are expected to be on data interpretation. Pie charts, bar diagrams, charts, line graph, and data comparison are the main areas on which the questions are expected in this section. A few questions may be time consuming but overall the questions are supposed to have moderate difficulty level.

 

Indian and Global environment

Most of the B schools accepting MAT 2017 May exam scores keep might this section as qualifying, although it is an integral part of MAT question paper. Scoring well in this adds to your scores and your score card also reflects it. In the final admission round good B schools consider the score in this section also. However, score of this section is not taken into account to determine your percentile in MAT entrance exam 2017 or earlier also. So, if you score 40 out of 40 marks in this section in May MAT 2017 exam, you will not add anything to your percentile. 

 

Questions in this section are based on conventional GK, business and economics, current affairs, International events, Who’s who. 15 minutes is a sufficient time to answer this section in MAT entrance exam.

Test dates for Paper pen mode and for Computer based test in May MAT 2017 exam are different. Candidates can opt either for paper based test or for online computer based test but will not be allowed to appear in both type of exams.

 

MAT 2017 May exam in Paper pencil mode will be conducted on Sunday May 7, 2017. The test will be of 2½ hours (150 minutes) and will be conducted from 10 AM to 12.30 PM. Candidates opting for Computer Based online test will be required to appear in the test from Saturday May 13, 2017 onwards.

 

MAT toppers like Ketan Anand, are of the view that you should appear in paper based test as you can do better in this exam than in computer based online test.
