MAT May 2017 CBT exam day tips

Enter with an Open mind

Toppers are those who are not biased. Do not limit yourself in attempting the number of questions. You may or may not attempt all the questions in all the sections, given the time constraint or due to the difficulty level but there is no need to go with a biased mind that you will not attempt all the questions. It is quite possible that you may encounter the questions which you can solve.

Time Management in MAT 2017 CBT exam

All the questions carry equal weightage in MAT 2017 and are to be solved within the given overall time frame. Focus on such questions which you can solve quickly and the saved time can be utilised to solve other questions in that section. You have to judiciously divide the time to maximise your score. Left over questions can be solved in the saved time from other questions.

There are 200 questions to be solved in 2½ hours (150 minutes). It means less than a minute is available to solve a question. On the top of it each question carries a negative marking of ¼ mark.

It requires good time management with speed and accuracy to maximise your attempts and score high in MAT May 2017 exam. If you mark one wrong answer, you will lose the credit for the question and will be imposed a penalty also, pushing you back in score. So the need is to maximise your attempts within the below suggested time limit for each section

Maintain your Accuracy level

One wrong answer will take away the credit for the question and will attract a penalty also, pushing your score backwards. Suggestion is not to waste time on one question if you find it too difficult to solve. Go to the next one. You can come back to it later, if time permits.

Maximise your attempts

The best and proven methodology to attempt any MCQ test is to attempt it again and again. MAT 2017 CBT is a comprehensive test without any restriction to navigate to any section during the examination. You can begin from any section, attempt those questions first where you have more expertise and move to other section. Second, third and fourth attempts must be gradually focused on higher difficulty level questions.

Aim to score high in each section

You are supposed to attempt questions from all sections, so don’t focus only on one section leaving one or other section.  There are candidates who are expert in Quant and in their anxiety to maximise their score in quantitative aptitude, they forget one or other section. By the time they realise it, the exam duration is over. This results in a very high score in Quant but very poor score in other sections due to which the admission to a B school remains a dream.

Make a smart choice of questions

There is no need to take any question as a challenge as all the answers will carry equal marks in MAT May 2017 exam. You have the liberty to move between the sections as there is no sectional time constraint, so you can maximise the attempts and solve the easier section first moving to the more difficult one.

Key points for MAT exam room strategy

To avoid mistakes in MAT May 2017 CBT exam, adopt the following strategy in testing room

  • Target high percentile to get an edge over your peers
  • Make 4 to 5 attempts per section. The best doable questions should be covered in the first attempt followed by more difficult questions.
  • Skip the questions which you do not find doable in the first instance. If time permits, come back to it.
  • Begin with the most favourite section. Also try to maximise attempts in last section as you may get tired by the time you reach the last section.
  • Don’t try to cram your head with the unknown type of questions that may cause fatigue.
  • Go to the examination hall with open mind to attempt any type of questions.
  • Make a wise choice of questions. This will help you to manage each section well.
  • Be accurate and prioritize your questions. It is good to attempt those questions first which are from your strong areas and only afterwards, you should choose such questions which appear difficult to you.
  • It is not necessary to attempt GK questions. The section is not taken into account to calculate your percentile and merit score.

Check your likely score with MAT Percentile and Score Predictor
