Top MBA colleges including IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Lucknow and others have hiked their fee in the range of 10 to 20% while JBIMS has increased it by 200% for the class 2017-19
To meet expenses of highly expensive management programme, you have to arrange more funds either from your own or borrow the same from the available resources.

Doing MBA from top B-schools and meeting their expenses has become a matter of making a bigger hole in your money box. Almost all the top MBA colleges including IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, XLRI, SPJIMR, MDI, IMI, IMT among others have hiked their fee in the range of 10 to 20 percent for the flagship PGDM programmes commencing 2017.

JBIMS Mumbai has announced 200% fee hike. However despite such a steep hike the fee remains low as compared to the other top B-schools.

IIM Ahmedabad hikes fee again at Rs.22 lakhs on Convocation sidelines: Will rising cost of top MBA programmes be an admission deterrent?

Now the candidates who are offered admission by IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore or Calcutta have to rethink whether he/she should go for MBA or else pursue some other course. What you have to spend in 2 years at IIMs or other expensive B-schools, you may not spend even a fraction of it if you pursue any other Post Graduate or Masters programme.

Not only the admission to top MBA colleges is tough, and requires lot of study and practice right from preparation for written entrance exam to final admission round, you also have no guarantee that you would get admission to expensive IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore or Calcutta even if you score very high in the Common Admission Test (CAT) exam. And now to meet expenses of  highly expensive management programme, you have to arrange more funds either from your own or borrow the same from the available resources.

Top B-schools announce steep hike in fee
The way these top B-schools have increased their fee by almost 30-40% in last few years, has made the MBA aspirants to think twice whether to opt for IIMs and XLRI or choose some cheaper but good MBA option.

IIM Ahmedabad hikes fee for 3nd year in succession
IIM Ahmedabad had the fee structure of Rs. 18.5 lakhs in 2015. In 2016 the fee was increased by Rs. 1 lakh and went up to Rs.19.5 lakhs. Now with effect from 2017 IIM Ahmedabad has again increased the programme fee to Rs.21 lakhs for PGP in Management and PGP in Food & Agribusiness Management.

IIM Bangalore increases fee by Rs. 80000/-
Close on the heels of IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore has also revised its fee from Rs.18.70 lakhs in 2016 to Rs. 19.50 lakhs for 2017-19 batch.

IIM Calcutta recently hiked 17% fee
IIM Calcutta is close 3rd as one of the most expensive B-schools in India. Last year it increased its fee by 17% . Now the fee stands at Rs. 19 lakhs for 2017-19 batch.

IIM Lucknow increases fee by 15%
During past 5 years IIM Lucknow has increased and reduced its fee also. The fee at IIM Lucknow was Rs. 12 lakhs in 2012-13. It was reduced to Rs.10.8 lakhs and remained so till 2015-16.

IIM Lucknow increased its fee after 3 years in 2016 to Rs.14 lakhs. Now for the batch 2017-19, the fee has again been increased by 15% to Rs.16 lakhs.

IIM Kozhikode increased fee to Rs.16 lakhs
IIM Kozhikode has recently revised its fee to match the other IIMs and has increased it to Rs.16 lakhs.

JBIMS, Mumbai announces 200% fee hike
Jamna Lal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) Mumbai has announced almost 200% fee hike, although despite such a fee hike, the fee for the flagship MMS 2017-19 will not go much higher as compared to other top B-schools. JBIMS used to charge around 1.02 lakhs for the flagship MMS programme. From the year 2017-18 onwards, the revised fees will be Rs. 3 lakhs per annum  for General Students from the existing fee of Rs. 102,290/-. For NRI/FN and PIO students will be charged twice the amount of fee for General Students i.e. Rs. 6 lakhs per annum.

SPJIMR, Mumbai increases fee by Rs. 1.50 lakhs
The fee structure at SPJIMR, Mumbai was Rs.14.50 lakhs in 2016. For the PGDM 2017-19, the B-school has increased the fee to Rs.16 lakhs

MDI Gurgaon goes for Rs.1.71 lakh fee hike
Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon has increased its fee from Rs.17.15 lakhs last year to Rs. 18.86 lakhs for the PGDM batch 2017-19.

IMI New Delhi increases fee Rs.45000
Probably the lowest fee hike has been at International Management Institute (IMI) New Delhi. The fee has been increased from Rs.14.96 lakhs in 2016 to Rs. 15.41 lakhs for the PGDM 2017-19.

IMT Ghaziabad hikes Rs.1.50 lakhs in fee
The Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad till last year maintained its fee structure at Rs.15 lakhs. The fee has now been increased to Rs. 16.50 lakhs for the PGDM 2017-19.

XLRI Jamshedpur with 7% fee hike
XLRI Jamshedpur is likely to revise the fee for the PGDM programme from Rs.17.95 lakhs. If it happens the revision could go in the range of 7 to 10%.

Although comparatively newer IIMs have not announced their fee hike so far, it wouldn’t be surprising if they also opt for fee rise for the batch 2017-19. Since MBA market is looking up and the top B-schools have a wider choice of selection, the fee hike by these top MBA colleges makes less impact as the high RoI of these B-schools and the campus placement attract more and more students to do their MBA from one of these highly ranked Management institutes.
