CAT 2017 Registration: Countdown begins - last 2 days to go; 5 key don’ts for error free submission

The countdown to CAT 2017 registration has begun now as only 2 days are left for this largest MBA entrance test of India to close the online registration process on September 20 at 5PM.

MBA aspirants exploring admission to IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, FMS Delhi, SPJIMR Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, IMI New Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad among others, if not yet completed their CAT 2017 registration form are advised not to wait for the last date due to various reasons and technical glitches expected on the last day and should finalize the CAT 2017 registration without any further delay.

There is no information so far about any chances of CAT 2017 registration date to be extended by IIM Lucknow and it looks that the CAT 2017 registration will close on September 20 as per the original schedule. Accordingly, there are only 2 days left for the CAT 2017 registrations to close.

5 Don’ts in CAT 2017 registration
n past also, CAT conveners had advised the candidates to adhere to following don’ts while going to finalize their CAT registrations-

• Don’t rule out the last day technical glitches
• Don’t wait till last day and register in advance
• Don’t let your money stuck in transit on last day due to more response time
• Don’t invite last minute inconvenience due to heavy rush that may increase load on servers
• Don’t expect extension in last date of CAT 2017 registration

Register in advance and don’t wait for last date, is probably what Prof Neeraj Dwivedi, CAT 2017 Convener and faculty at IIM Lucknow would suggest to CAT 2017 aspirants as the last date could be marred with technical glitches. The same advisory was issued by past CAT conveners - Prof Rajendra K. Bandi (Convener CAT 2016 and faculty at IIM Bangalore); Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhyay (CAT 2015 convener and faculty at IIM Ahmedabad). Prof Bandi advised the CAT aspirants “Going by the trends of previous years, there will be a huge surge in the number of registrations in the last 2-3 days, which increases the load on the servers, and can potentially impact the server response time. Therefore, candidates are strongly advised to register early and avoid last minute inconvenience.”

Wake up: Don’t delay your CAT 2017 registration
Thousands of candidates are still holding back from applying and are waiting for some last minute change or clarification whether the exam would bring more surprises this year. But all this confusion and difficulty in completing the registration in next 2 days will not deter IIM Lucknow from closing the CAT 2017 registration process on September 20.

The candidates should therefore submit their CAT 2017 registration form without any further delay as on the last day there are more chances to get your registration form and payment stuck due to technical glitches since thousands of the candidates simultaneously rush to fill, complete and make payment online for CAT registration.

Last day load to take more time in Server response
There would be a huge surge in the number of registrations on the last day. The sudden surge in number on last day of CAT 2017 registration will increase the load on the servers and it can  impact the server response time which can result in delays in uploading documents and making payment. Thus, on the last day you may find it difficult to upload your documents promptly as is available now.

The biggest difficulty is found in uploading the scanned photographs, signature image, category documents and above all making CAT exam fee payment. To avoid any sort of technical glitches on the last day while uploading the documents, photograph or signature, the best is to submit it now. Besides, only 2 days are left for CAT 2017 registration to close, so there is no need to wait.

Be careful: All 5 pages important
CAT 2017 registration which opened on August 9 at 10 AM, has 2 parts comprising personal details and application details in 5 pages. Many items in CAT 2017 registration process creating confusion among aspirants should be clarified before proceeding for registration and to ensure error free submission.

CAT 2017 registration guide warns the aspirants not to make mistakes at various registration and application points as the personal details are not allowed to be changed later on. It is therefore, very much necessary to understand well before beginning the CAT 2017 registration process. While the registration guide and video have been enabled by CAT Centre 2017, still there are points where students get stuck and are unable to move further on registration.

As per the registration instructions for CAT 2017, no amendment is possible in Date of Birth after making the payment for registration and clicking the  submit button. Format for filling up the date of birth is DD/MM/YYYY in CAT 2017 registration form and a candidate is not required to write it since the calendar icon has to be used to select the correct date. 

Check the size & appearance of Photograph & signature
Upload the photograph and signature of required size and style in personal details section of CAT 2017 registration form.  Scan the photograph and signature and then upload them. Check that the photo resolution is of minimum 150px.  CAT 2017 registration form wants you to upload your recent passport size photograph not larger than 80KB with dimension of 35mm X 45mm in .JPEG, .JPG formats.

The signature should be with the dimensions of 1000mm X 35 mm and the documents file format should be .jpg or .jpeg. The file size should not be more than 80KB. Suggestion is to put your signature on a plain white piece of paper in black ink. Scan the signature part only and get to the required size and then upload.

CAT 2017 convening IIM Lucknow has clarified well on the size and style of photograph which you need to upload in the CAT 2017 registration form. It will be better to understand and then upload the photograph.  

Don’t use other than yours mail id
Under any circumstances due to non availability of computer, or no net connection or anything else, don’t fill up any other’s mail id in your CAT 2017 registration form. You must provide a valid and unique email address of yours. All correspondence pertaining to CAT 2017 and subsequent information during the selection stages of the respective IIMs will be communicated to the registered email address.

Last day rush: How to complete CAT 2017 registration?
In case of any circumstances compelling for last day CAT 2017 registration and you find the website is not working and you are unable to complete your application, you should close your Internet browser and try again. Also, ensure you are using the correct version of the Internet browser recommended:

IIM Lucknow has advised to preview your application before submission to ensure that all the details are correct. It is suggested to go through the necessary guidelines for registration and prepare a check list before beginning the step by step CAT 2017 registration process. This exercise is needed as not filling up the required information or filling up any wrong information may render the candidate disqualified even if he or she has secured a high percentile in CAT 2017.
