Aspirants will be asked to write an essay on a given topic. Candidates having been tested on objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will also be tested on real life driven written communication skill based on wider perspective on important issues. The candidates in XAT are tested on both the counts. Their performance in essay writing will also form the base of their final section round.

The marks of General Knowledge will not be used for determining the percentile and cut off at first stage of selection. However it is used by XLRI and some other Associate Member Institutes at the time of final selection

XAT 2018: Test duration increased
XAT 2018 will be a 3½  hours test to be held on January 7, 2018. The candidates will not have any break in between except for the fact that Objective MCQ part -1 with 3 sections will be over in 170 minutes and next 35 minutes will be allotted for GK and Essay writing part with 5 minutes in between for turn over time.

Facility to move between sections
XAT 2018 will not restrict the test takers from moving to one or other sections within the overall allotted time. However, aspirants are advised not to spend too much time only on one section since all the sections will have the respective cut off percentile.

Uniform marking system
All the questions in XAT 2018 will carry equal marks. Prior to 2013 XAT used to carry varying marking system from 1.5 to 5 marks per question. The system got stabilized in 2013 and continued since then.

Penalty of Negative marking
One fourth of a mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer in XAT 2018. So please be careful while marking your answer choice on the computer screen.

Process to mark your answers
Please read the instructions carefully before proceeding to mark your answer choice on computer screen. In our speed of solving the questions, picking and marking the answer options, sometimes we skip the correct numbered option and mark out answers differently. This inadvertently made mistake, results in a chain of followed wrong answers and the entire preparation, hard work goes futile.

XAT 2018 will be conducted from 47 centers all across India that will include the cities - Agartala, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Berhampur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Goa, Greater Noida, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Jamshedpur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nasik, Noida, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Surat, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, Udaipur, Vadodara, Varanasi, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam. The test will be held in 2 international cities of Dubai and Kathmandu.
