The candidates, no doubt, despite going through all the guidelines, get stuck here and there and are unable to move further on CAT registration. Since there are not many days left for CAT 2017 registration even after the CAT online registration date has been extended, it is advisable to complete the CAT registration and utilize your time to prepare for the CAT 2017 exam in remaining 60 days.

Register carefully: May lose Rs.1800/-
The CAT 2017 registration process requires a bit diligent attention and the basic reason is that many details are not allowed to be changed later on. Accordingly, it is very much necessary to understand well the key points which can cause problem and delay your CAT registration process.

2 Parts Registration process: Factors that may delay the process
CAT 2017 registration process, which closes on September 25, has 2 parts comprising personal details and application details in 5 pages. There are many items in CAT 2017 registration process which may create confusion among aspirants. It is therefore better to get answers to them and finalise your registration in next 2 days to avoid the last day rush and technical glitches and ensure error free submission.

Reason-1: Need time to preview your application
CAT Centre 2017 suggests to preview your application before submission to ensure that all the details are correct. It is not sufficient to fill-in the details and submit the CAT application. In case of error, your time and money go waste. Besides, only 3 days are left for CAT 2017 registration last date. If you delay it further, you may lose the opportunity.

Reason-2: Website may not work
This is one of the very common problems faced by CAT aspirants every year. The problem could get aggravated on the last day of CAT registration. Please note in case the website does not work and you are unable to complete your application, you should close your Internet browser and try again. Ensure that you are using the correct version of the Internet browser recommended by IIM Lucknow:

Browser Versions Supported
Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9
Mozilla Firefox 14 to 28
Google Chrome 20 to 33

The Registration/Application form is best viewed in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers.

Reason-3: No correction allowed later
You need sufficient time to go through CAT registration guidelines, know the documents required for CAT registration, must be aware about your exam city preferences and the preferred programmes offered by IIMs alongwith all your past academic details before beginning your CAT 2017 registration. All this requires lot of time and this is the thing which is not available in abundance to you. So make sure that you complete the CAT registration process before September 25, the last date for CAT registration.

Please note that you cannot edit personal details (Personal details, other personal details, communication address, uploaded documents) and any details in academic section after submission of application and making payment of CAT registration fee. However, if you still make mistake(s) while registering / entering the details in your CAT 2017 application, you must register again with a new email ID.

Your CAT 2017 application will be considered for the latest registration and the Admit Card will be issued for the same. Please note that, you will not receive a refund or Admit Card for your earlier registration. Failure to re-register in such circumstances may lead to nullification of your candidature.

You can edit some personal details, such as communication address, gender, category, educational information, work experience, exam city preferences and interview city preferences etc., until you have not submitted the Application Form.

Reason-4: Integrated/dual degree marks-error area
If you have done 5 years integrated course of B.Tech and MBA and as per your university norms first 3.5 years is considered to be B.Tech and remaining 1.5 years is considered to be MBA, you must know that as per your University norms, you will enter the aggregate percentage of first 3.5 years under Bachelor’s Degree and remaining 1.5 years under Master’s degree.

Another case is that a CAT aspirant has completed 5 year dual degree course (BTech+MTech, BS+MS, BTech+MSc.), or has completed dual Bachelors’ degree courses (BCom+LLB, BPharm+BTech, you must select the option indicating that you have dual Bachelors’ Degrees on the CAT application form and then enter the details of both qualifications instead of opting for regular one.

Reason-5: Are you ready with category certificate for upload?
There are formats of various certificates available on CAT 2017 website. If you have not yet kept yours ready, do it now. For example, if you have an SC/ST certificate in the format uploaded on the CAT 2017 website, you can use the same certificate and do not need to download the certificate template from the CAT website and fill it again.

However, your certificate should fulfil the following conditions, you can upload the same certificate:

  • The certificate should have been issued by a competent authority.
  • The name of the caste and caste number should appear in the certificate.
  • The Ministry's resolution/order number should be available.
  • The certificate should be in Hindi or English only.

All the CAT experts and mentors suggest that aspirants should patiently complete the entire registration process for CAT 2017 and this needs time. Instead of resorting to speedy or overconfidently filling up the registration and application form, without arranging proper information in order of instructions, completing the process item by item and page by page should be ensured.

Read the instructions and arrange the documents

  • Read the guidelines to gather the required information
  • Prepare a check list of documents
  • You can complete the process in 15 minutes, but if you are not clear on any point, remain confused, do not understand the step by step process, forget even a single step or do not correctly fill in the required information, you are running the risk of losing your candidature as well as the registration fee paid to appear for CAT 2017 exam
