IIFT holds its 42nd Convocation

The convocation ceremony of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade Delhi, Kolkata and Dar-es-Salaam was held on March 25, 2008 at the IIFT's New Delhi Campus.

Union Minister of Commerce Mr Kamal Nath was the guest of honour on the occasion. Commerce secretary and chairman of IIFT Mr G K Pillai and Director, IIFT Delhi Mr K T Chacko presided over the function. This was also the first convocation for IIFT Kolkatta Campus students.  

The convocation saw 151 students from IIFT's flagship programme MBA (International Business) being awarded their MBA degrees. Apart from this, students of the fellowship programme, executive MBA programme, part-time MBA programme, certificate programme in export management and certificate programmes in languages were also awarded their diplomas and degrees.  

On the occasion, meritorious students from three campuses of IIFT received gold, silver and bronze medals. This years Gold Medal for the MBA 2006-08 batch was conferred on Ashish Jain while Silver Medal was awarded to Gunit Jain and Bronze Medal went to Ashish Nichani. 

Besides, IIFT also conferred the Dun and Bradstreet Award, Sumitra Chishti Award and the Award for All round Proficiency. The Dun and Bradstreet Award, awarded to the best student, went to Gunit Jain while the Sumitra Chishti Award was won by Ankit Jain.  

The Award for All round Proficiency award has been introduced in the institute for the first time to encourage students to pay attention to all round personality development. The award for Delhi Campus was won by Mr Ankur Thadani and for Kolkatta campus it went to Jitin Shankar Bhasin.  

Speaking on the occasion of the convocation, Mr Kamal Nath spoke about India's growth story and how the students would have a great role to play in it.  

Earlier, much to the students' interest, Mr Pillai spoke about the increasing influence of the media, the entire concept of buzz marketing and popular sites like YouTube.com.
