Final Placements '08 at VGSOM - IIT Kharagpur scales new heights

Vantage 2008, the final placements programme of the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM), IIT Kharagpur ended successfully.

According to information shared by IIT-K VGSOM with MBAUniverse.com, "The batch of 121 students have got total 160 offers from prestigious companies for coveted positions in the corporate world." Further it added, "A notable aspect of Vantage 2008 that stands out is the 30% increase in the average compensation levels."  

The average domestic salary this year stands out at Rs11.44 lakhs p.a, while the media is Rs10.32 lakhs p.a. The highest domestic compensation offered was Rs18 lakhs p.a. while the average international compensation was 70,000 USD. 

The batch was placed in various coveted positions in the corporate world. According to information shared by IIT-K VGSOM with MBAUniverse.com, "Some of the roles offered to the batch of 121 students, were global leadership, management consulting, investment banking, corporate planning & strategy, brand management, real-estate consulting, equity research, knowledge management, SCM consulting, treasury, risk management and product merchandising." 

In terms of Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs), 30% of the batch had PPOs in their kitty from corporates like Barclays Capital (Singapore), A&J Consulting (USA), Citigroup, Ernst & Young, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, ITC, RPG and Yahoo!.  

According to VGSOM, "The high percentage of PPOs justifies the faith reposed by the host companies in the unique six-month internship offered by VGSOM." 

First time recruiters making a beeline to recruit the talent pool at VGSOM included the likes of Lehman Brothers, Yes Bank, Knox Capital, Angel Broking, Schlumberger, Deloitte Consulting, Avalon Consulting, Eicher Consulting, MarketRx, Heinz, Bombay Dyeing, Maytas, i2 technologies and Reliance ADAG.  

Profile wise according to VGSOM, "26% preferred the IT profile, Consulting18 %, Banking and Finance16%, Marketing13%, Strategy10%, BPO Operations 8% and HR only 1%." 

This year many students opt for sunrise sector like real estate. Said VGSOM, "Students preferred sunrise sectors like real-estate (Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj), retail (Spencers) and infrastructure (Maytas Infra) over the traditional ones." 

In consulting the institute saw majors like Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Ernst & Young, Accenture, Avalon, and Deloitte participated in the process. Niche consulting majors like Eicher Consulting, i2 technologies and Bristlecone (SCM Consulting), MarketRx, and Headstrong offered challenging and diverse profiles. The finance sector had diverse representation through Lehman Brothers, Yes Bank, Citibank, HSBC, Irevna, STCI, Infosys BPO, Knox Capital, AnandRathi, ICICI Bank and ICICI Prudential. Marketing profiles showed promising growth with offers from ITC, Vodafone, Heinz, RPG, Bombay Dyeing and Reliance ADAG.  

IT sector recruitments had saw profiles offered by majors like IBM, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Infosys, HCL Technologies, NIIT Technologies, Maverick Systems, Aricent, Evalueserve and EDS. Operations profiles were offered by Schlumberger, ITC, Voltas, Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland.
