Ninety-four students of the 13th batch of communications management graduated from the prestigious Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA), during the Convocation Ceremony held on March 31 at the institute's campus.

They were awarded the Post-Graduate Diploma in Management. The ceremony was presided over by the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who delivered the convocation address.

Besides the 94 students of the Post-Graduate Programme in Communications Management (PGPCM), 19 students of the Post-Graduate Programme in Retail Communications Management (PGPRCM) also received their post-graduate qualifications from the Governing Council of the Institute.

Awards for academic excellence were conferred upon PGPCM students Ms Arthi Balasubramanian (Gold), Ms Kaumudi Mahajan (Silver) and Ms Sinduja Rangarajan (Bronze) and RCM student Mr. Gaurav Kumar (PGPRCM).

Dr. Kalam in his address emphasised the important role the young men and women in front of him, and how they can help in the development and progress of the country. He brought out analogies from 'Five Minds of The Future' by Howard Gardner, and stressed how these 'five minds' – disciplinary, synthesizing, creativity, respect and ethics – should exist in synergy for a person to be well-equipped to deal with the challenges of MICA.

MICA director, Professor Atul Tandon talked about the values and ethics and values system at MICA, and how the vision of MICA emphasises the need for innovative professionals to meet future challenges.

Following up on its successful two year Diploma program in Communications Management, MICA has recently started an AICTE-approved Executive Post-Graduate Programme (PGPCMX) for working professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills, for careers in the industry sectors of media and entertainment, design and retail.

Over the years, MICA has carved a niche for itself as a premier institute for education in the field of Communications Management. Graduates from MICA are employed in leading organizations from the industry sectors of advertising, marketing research, media, telecom, consultancy and consumer products.

Many students of MICA have also walked down the entrepreneurial road. Sajith Narayan, from the convocating 13th batch of PGPCM students, has forgone his plush job in order to start a Marketing Solutions firm, shortly after graduating from the institute. "The firm will be a mix of management consultancy and ad, media and design catering primarily to SMEs and start-ups", says Sajith.
