Lucknow based Indian Institute of Management (IIM-L) inaugurated the International Programme in Management for Executives (IPMX) at its Noida Campus on April 10, 2008.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr Hari Shankar Singhania, Former Chairman of IIM-L. Dr Jamshed J Irani, Chairman, Board of Governors of IIM L and Director, Tata Sons and Dr Devi Singh, Director of IIM-L were present at the occasion.

IIM-L's IPMX is a one-year residential programme for middle and senior level professionals, to prepare them for leadership roles. The course offers specialization in Finance and Economics, Marketing Strategy and Consulting, HRM, as well as Operations and Technology Management.

With the launch of IMPX, IIM-L has also entered the long duration full time programmes targeted at executives. IIM Ahmedabad was amongst the first institutes to start its Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX) a few years back. IIM-C also offers a Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPEX).

In the inaugural batch of IIM-L's IPMX, there are 46 executives who have enrolled into the programme. According to IIM-L, the average GMAT score for the group is over 700 and they have an average of 10 years plus of experience. The candidates selected for the programme are experienced candidates and come from diverse functional areas, but a large majority are technical graduates.

IPMX participants come from organizations from the public sector, private sector and even Defence services. Some the organizations include: BSNL, MTNL, NTPC, Ministry of Labour Employment, Department of Custom and Excise (GOI), IBM Global Services, IBM India Ltd., Wipro, Satyam Computers, TCS, TESCO HSC, Citi Bank, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Steel, Larsen & Turbo, Indian Army, Ministry of Defence and many more.

While delivering the address to the first batch of IPMX, Mr Singhania said, "In choosing our IPMX programme, you have taken a momentous decision. I hope after completing this programme, you will go fully satisfied".

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Irani highlighted the importance of executive education in career planning. Drawing from his experience at TISCO, Dr Irani said, "In early 90s, when TISCO started admitting management graduates into the company, there was some resentment in the ranks. These management graduates were doing well and moving up the corporate ladder, leaving behind some of the more experienced executives. So TISCO decided to collaborate with XLRI to launch an executive education programme for our middle-level managers. TISCO employees did well at this XLRI programme, and were more productive when they came back to TISCO. So clearly executive education is useful for mid career transformation."

Talking about the roadmap for IIM-L, Dr Devi Singh said, "It is our endeavour at IIM Lucknow to build a global school with a social conscience. Our recent initiatives have all been in the right direction, whether it is starting this international programme, or looking deeply into concerns such as environment, public health, agriculture, and the like."

Giving the highlights of IPMX, Prof Punam Sahgal, Dean of IIM-L's Noida Campus said, "The unique thing of our IPMX programme is the internship at Canada's leading institution McGill University which will provide students with the opportunity for an international learning experience to equip them with the knowledge and perspective relevant to current global business issues."
