Convocation 2008: “NMIMS to expand to Hyderabad and Chandigarh soon”, NMIMS VC Dr Kondop

Mumbai based NMIMS University held its convocation on April 26, 2008.

On the occasion, Dr NM Kondap, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS University, delivered the address giving an overview of initiatives at the University. In his address, Dr Kondap highlighted NMIMS expansion plans and its drive for international recognition.  

Said Dr Kondap, “During the year 2007-08, the University has taken many initiatives related to academics such as redesigning of curricular, enhancing the process of internationalization and benchmarking NMIMS against the international and national accredited schools. NMIMS has transformed itself from an Institute to a University with seven Schools and one Off-campus centre at Shirpur. It has nearly 200 full-time faculty, 230 staff, 4800 students. About 100 students have enrolled for Doctoral  Programme.” 

Talking about the expansion to new centers, namely Hyderabad and Chandigarh, Dr Kondap said, “This year Government of Andhra Pradesh invited NMIMS University and allocated a plot of 90 acres of land for setting up an off Centre Campus at Jadcherla, which is nearly 40 kms from the new international airport. The work at this campus will begin shortly. We will be finalizing shortly the terms and conditions for opening up a campus at Chandigarh.”

Giving emphasis to its drive for internationalization, Dr Kondap said, “The process of International Accreditation has been further strengthened so that we not only become globally competitive but also make a mark for ourselves in the international orbit. We are the members of the EFMD i.e. for EQUIS accreditation and AASCB for American Accreditation. We will be submitting our application for SAQS Accreditation i.e. South Asian Quality System through AMDISA (Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia) shortly.”

NMIMS conducted many 55 management development programme compared to 35 last year. It also signed an MOU with Mercedes Benz for a 3 Year Executive MBA Programme for their executives.

NMIMS has also signed new international exchange initiatives. Said Dr Kondap, “Under International Exchange Programme we have Faculty and Students Exchange with ESSCA, Euromed Marseille, ESC Roum, Athens University and Rotterdam School of Management, Netherlands. We have recently signed MOU with University of Houston, USA for School of Business Management and School of Technology Management & Engineering. We will be signing the MOUs shortly for the Schools mentioned earlier. The signing of the MOUs will provide opportunities to the students and faculty to have purposeful interaction.”

In his address, Dr Kondap also gave an overview of School of Pharmacy & Technology Management, Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering, School of Distance Learning, School of Science, School of Commerce and Balwant Sheth School of Architecture at NMIMS.
