Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi inaugurated its two year full time programme, MBA and MBA (Management of Services) for the batch 2008-10, on July 1.

Former President of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam delivered the inaugural address on the occasion. Mr Deepak Mohlah, MD, TMI India and alumnus of FMS was the Guest of Honour and Prof S K Tandon, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Delhi University chaired the session. FMS Dean Dr J K Mitra welcomed the students to FMS.

According to information shared by FMS with MBAUniverse.com, this year, FMS has admitted 101 students in its MBA programme, and 48 students in its MBA (Management of Services) programme.

On the occasion, Mr Mohlah released four scholarships of Rs 100,000 by TMI at FMS. These scholarships were awarded to the students of new batch and second year students for their excellent scholastic performance.

During his inaugural address, Dr Kalam shared answers sent in by the incoming batch at FMS to his question "What do you dream to be by 2018? and shared his thoughts on the same. Later, Dr Kalam spoke on the theme of "The Nation and the Dynamics of Leadership".

Inspiring the students, Dr Kalam said, "There will be lot of problems in your career and life. But you should not let problems overpower you. You have to be the captain, no the problems! You have to defeat the problems and that is the foundation of success."

Dr Mohlah shared with students, "There is dearth of leadership in India at different levels. While a manager wishes to know all he can before taking decisions, a leader understands that there will be uncertainty and not all information will be available. Leaders deal with ambiguity. That's what leadership is all about."

Prof J K Mitra, Dean, FMS asked students of the new batch to develop a holistic mind. Said Prof Mitra, "FMS is a unique institution in the country and is a pioneer of management education in India. FMS will provide you with the right kind of knowledge that you require to build a great career. But we expect you to fulfil social responsibility and play an important part in nation building."

FMS was established in 1954 with a three year part-time Post graduate management programme in Business Administration for senior and middle level executives. Today the institute offers MBA (full time & part time), full time MBA (MS), part time MBA (Health Care Administration), Management Development Programmes and Doctoral Programmes.
