The Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEX), offered by Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, is drawing good response from both industry and applicants. While the second batch is currently in progress, IIM-C is getting ready to admit the third

The One year Post-Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEX) was introduced in December 2006 with the objective of developing experienced executives for leadership positions in global organizations. Traditionally the programme commenced in December, but now IIM-C is shifting it to April month. This is in line with IIM-A’s PGPX programme which also commences the new batch in April every year.

The application process for IIM-C PGPEX 2009 is open till July 31, 2008. Thereafter applications will be screened and IIM-C will interview the candidates. Participants are selected by a rigorous selection process that reviews a candidate’s work experience and educational achievements. The preliminary selection is based on the GMAT score and a review of the application. The final selection is dependent on a personal or telephonic interview for applicants residing abroad.

Talking about the objective of PGPEX programme, Prof Abraham said, “The global economy has expanded manifold and is constantly throwing up both challenges and opportunities. The present business environment requires effective executives who combine theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving skills. The need is for talented people with adequate corporate experience, excellent cross-cultural skills and an awareness of the emerging global business scenario. The PGPEX programme was created in response to these needs. It aims to develop executives who can meet the emerging and, in some cases, unforeseen challenges of global business.”

According to IIM-C, the programme is delivered in seven modules. The first three modules are devoted to compulsory courses and the last three modules include both compulsory and elective courses. During the fifth module participants undertake an international study tour to gain knowledge about other economies.

The participants of the first batch of PGPEX programme have been received well by industry. The first batch had admitted 30 candidates. IIM-C is planning to ramp-up the programme size in years to come.
