K.J. Somaiya Institute records 20% rise in average salary

K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Study and Research has ended Placements 2007 with the highest increase in average salary: 20%. The highest salary offered was Rs.12 lakhs per annum while the average salary touched Rs.6.7 lakhs per annum.

The top five recruiters who visited the campus were ICICI Bank, Satyam Computer Services, IBM, Covansys and J.P. Morgan Chase.

Mumbai-based K.J. Somaiya Institute shared its placement report with MBAUniverse.com -- which shows that 227 offers were made to students on campus (the institute has a policy of one offer per student); 3 students had received pre-placement offers; 13 did not participate.

The placement report further says that 86 companies visited the campus -- out of which 33 were new recruiters or first-timers at the institute. Sector wise, banking and finance led the race with 42% offers, followed by IT/telecom with 28% offers, consumer products with 3% offers, and consulting with 7% offers. Other sectors made up the rest of the placements.

As far as the disciplines went, 98 students were recruited by finance, 82 by marketing, 9 by HR, 7 by IT, and 31 by other operations.

K. J. Somaiya Institute was established in 1981 as part of the Somaiya Vidyavihar educational complex promoted by the late Shri. K.J. Somaiya. It has an international alliance with the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, for Entrepreneurship Management.
