International conference on Globalization and Emerging Economies held at IIM Indore

Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM-I), with Centre for Indian Multinational Education and Research (CIMER) and Academy of International Business, organized an International conference on "Globalization and Emerging Economies".

The conference was held from August 11-13, 2008 at IIM Indore. At the conference, a total of 160 papers were received out of which 128 papers were presented. In total, 30 Doctoral papers were presented. 

Says IIM-I, "Emerging Economies like Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Africa, etc. have been part of the globalization process for a long time and these parts of the world has been in the limelight since 1991. Their involvement have added new dimensions in terms of theoretical perspectives and management practices in the domain of international business. Emerging economies have brought transformation on several aspects such as enterprises, industries, science and technology, tradition and culture, history, institutions and on the overall performance of emerging economies." These issues were covered under seven tracks of the conference.   

On Day 1, the conference was inaugurated By Prof. Pawan Singh, Director, IIM Indore. The keynote address was given by Prof. K. Narayanan; Department of H&SS, IIT Bombay & President AIB India Chapter. The conference had two plenary sessions in the first day, where in Prof N S Siddharthan; Ex Economic Advisor to the Government of India was the main speaker in Plenary Session I. He deliberated on FDI spillover effects. Prof. S K Kundu from Florida State International University was the second plenary speaker & talked on Born Global Company.   

During the Inaugural session, book on International Marketing published by TATA McGraw Hill International & authored by Prof. Philip, Prof. John & Prof Prasant Salwan of IIM-I was released by the Director, IIM Indore.  

Key Highlights of the Day 2 of the Programme was presence of two eminent speakers: Prof Sumit Kundu from Florida International University and of Mrs. Aparna Dutt Sharma, Sr. Director of IBEF. They deliberated on the IT Strategy to be adopted for Globalization in the plenary session. 

On the Day 3, Prof. Sashi Jha, the founder President of AIB-India addressed the plenary session. Prof. P K Singh, Director delivered the valedictory address. 

During the valedictory session, Prof. K. Narayanan; Department of H&SS, IIT Bombay & President AIB India Chapter presented the certificate & cash prize to the best doctoral papers to Sabita Bhatt & Ms Mukta Paliwal of IIT Bombay.  

Prof. Prasant Salwan, Chair, CIMER, IIM Indore & Organising Secretary and coordinator of the Conference, presented a formal vote of thanks in the valedictory session.  

On the occasion, IIM Indore also lunched the Global Research and Knowledge Management (GRKM) web were IIM Indore and eight universities collaborating with IIM Indore from Germany, France, England, New Zealand, USA, Spain and China has been be integrated. Indian faculty members and corporate will get full access to the knowledge bank of these participative institutions. The success stories of Indian corporate and management knowledge of Indian professors will be disseminated to the world through the world wide global research and knowledge management (GRKM) web thus gaining brand recognition and enhancement of brand value internationally for Indian companies and academic society, informs IIM-I.
