The Indian Institute of Management-Indore -- the youngest in the family of IIMs -- has joined hands with software company Impetus to set up a chair in the area of Information Technology.

This initiative, to be called the Impetus Chair of Information Technology and Systems, will undertake a series of collaborative activities and applied research work.

According to IIM Indore director Dr S.P. Parashar, such initiatives help bridge the industry-academia gap: “We work with reputed corporate houses to bring in an industry outlook into our learnings, and also to give a practical perspective to our research initiatives,” he says.

This industry-academics alliance will help in leveraging on complementary skills offered by both Impetus and IIM-I. The chair is intended to provide a framework for working on research projects, industry practices analysis, sharing knowledge and conducting specific projects in the area of ‘Business Systems, and Software and Data Communication Industries’.

“We expect our association with Impetus to help our students gain a unique and important understanding… at the same time, our faculty and projects will complement the efforts of Impetus employees in subjects like project management, product conceptualization and market research,” explained Dr. Parashar.

Praveen Kankariya, CEO, Impetus Technologies, said, “The engineering talent at Impetus, combined with the management knowledge of the IIM faculty and students, will present a unique and exciting synergy of interesting thoughts and ideas. We are very happy to be a part of the IIM fraternity.”
