IIM Lucknow Director Dr Devi Singh completes term; HRD Ministry yet to announce successor

After completing his five-year tenure, Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L) Director Dr Devi Singh has handed over the charge of director to two senior faculty members of IIM-L.

The HRD Ministry is yet to announce the new Director for IIM-L.  

Prof Sushil Kumar, Associate Professor at IIM Lucknow, confirmed the development with MBAUniverse.com. Said Prof Kumar, "Dr Devi Singh has given up the charge as the Director of IIM-L yesterday on August 24, 2008.He has handed over his charge to Prof Sukumar Nandi, Dean, Planning and Development; and Prof Yogesh Agarwal, Dean, Academic Affairs."  

Dr Devi Singh was serving IIM-L as the Director since 2003. Before joining the IIM L, Dr Singh was the director of Management Development Institute, Gurgaon for two years. He is a well known Professor in the area of International Finance & Management. Dr Singh has been on several committees of Government of India, All India Council for Technical Education, PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Standing Committee on Public Enterprises and All India Management Association.

One of the significant achievements of Dr Singh's tenure has been the launch of IIM-L's Noida Campus in Delhi NCR. IIM-L Noida Campus was launched in year 2005. It offers programmes for working professionals.  

When asked the status of appointment of the new director at IIM L, said Prof Kumar, "The IIM L Director's seat is still vacant. The HRD Ministry has not yet decided the new director for IIM L." 

According to sources, government had initiated the search for the new director for IIM-L months back. The five-member of selection committee was headed by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman Mr Nripendra Mishra and included Higher Education Secretary R.P. Aggarwal and J.J. Irani, chairman of the board of governors at IIM Lucknow met some candidates.
