The convention is being held at Mumbai based Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research on the theme: Nurturing Thought Leadership through Management Education.
Delivering the presidential address, Dr Uday Salunkhe, Director, Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, said, "Management education sector needs a facelift. We need to focus on quality of education and relevance to industry needs."
Mr K V Kamath, Managing Director & CEO of ICICI Bank, while delivering the inaugural address said, "Indian industry has transformed from a manufacturing focused economy of the 1980s to knowledge and services focused. We are growing rapidly at 9%. Is our business thinking and practice keeping pace with these changes?"
Management thinker and Professor at US based Tuck School of Management, Dr V Govindarajan, challenged the 'legacy thinking' when he said, "Most businesses are focused on current challenges that the environment is offers today. What about the future? Management thinking and strategy development should look at the future drivers of change and see how they can lead the change."
Addressing the inaugural session of the AIMS convention, Prof J Philip, Founder President of AIMS, recounted the journey of AIMS. Said Prof Philip, "Twenty years back, we founded AIMS as the Association of Indian Management Schools in 1988 at IIM Bangalore. It has come a long way. In future we would like AIMS to emerge as a knowledge driven body that serves its member institutions like AACSB or EFMD do."
