Placements 2007 at NMIMS at all-time high!

Established in 1981 as a deemed university of Mumbai, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) has experienced a new high at Placements 2007 with its of batch of 254 students!

The highest domestic offer is for Rs.14.25 lakh – up from last year’s Rs.13 lakh. The average domestic salary this year is Rs.8.85 lakh. International placements, too, have seen an upward swing with ICICI Bank, Macquarie Bank, Global eProcure offering postings in Canada, Australia and the US; the average international salary is around US $ 70,000.

Dr. Kondap, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS University, feels that the credit for the highly successful placements this year should go to the policy of the management -- which focuses on the overall development of the student (the concept of a ‘Complete Student’).

The companies who came to recruit were from a diverse mix of sectors: consultancy, FMCG, IT, ITeS, BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance), manufacturing, pharma and retail. The list of recruiters included ABN Amro Asia Corporate Finance, Accenture, Baxter, Britannia, BPCL, Cap Gemini, CNBC, Coats India, Cognizant, Crisil, Dabur, ECS Consulting, Erix Advisors, GE, HLL, IBM, ICICI Securities, Irevna, ITC, J P Morgan, Kotak Bank, Lehman Brothers, L’Oreal, Marico, Mercer HR Consulting, Meryll Lynch, Motorola, Perfetti Van Melle, RPG Group, Saint Gobain, SBI Caps, SEBI and Thomas Cook.

According to NMIMS’s sector-wise comparison of recruiters vis-à-vis last year, there has been an increase in BFSI from 22 % to 27%, in FMCG from 7% to 14% and in manufacturing from 10% to 12%.

Overall, 2% of the companies were from the retail sector and 6% from the services sector.

And while BFSI companies recruited 34% students, IT took in 24%, and consultancy 7%. There was an increase in the number of students placed in FMCG sector -- from 4% to 8%; manufacturing and auto -- from 9% to 11%; and services -- from 5% to 8%.

Dr. Kondap added, “The academic rigor, application-oriented learning, focus on co-curricular activities, corporate support in establishing industry-institute networking have helped NMIMS move up the ladder with a clear policy of ‘Let’s work together to make a difference to Transcend Horizons’.”

Based on the recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, accorded Deemed to be University Status to NMIMS in January 2003. Besides full-time and part-time MBA programs, NMIMS has taken an initiative to address the needs of various sectors and launched sector-specific postgraduate programs like MBA in Retail Management, MBA in Pharmaceuticals Management, MBA in Services Management, MBA in Global Business, MBA in Actuarial Science and MBA in Capital Markets.
