FMS holds conclave on HR Outsourcing

Praxis, the HR & OB Society of Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi organized its annual Human Resource Conclave 2008 on September 6, 2008 on the topic of 'HR Outsourcing: Sustainability in the long run'.

Mr Oscar Fernandes, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India kicked off the conclave with his keynote speech.

Ms Ivy Mukherjee, Regional Head, South India, Watson Wyatt; Mr Joby Joseph, Business Group Manager, Hewitt Associates; Mr P Dwarkanath, Director, Group Human Capital, Max India; Mr Rajesh Kurup, Sr Vice President, HR, Times Innovative Media Ltd were the speakers at the panel discussion.  

While delivering the welcome address, Prof JK Mitra, Dean, FMS, said, "The objective of the conclave is to discuss fundamental issues, cost issue, manager regulations and new issues came up in HR domain."  

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Dwaraka Nath said that HR function can never be fully outsourced. While giving example of consumer and healthcare company GSK, he said, "The 2+2+2 model at GSK is a unique model which implied that any leader in GSK should have experience across 2 functions, 2 nations and 2 businesses."  

Mr Joby Joseph spoke about the issues facing the HR function and said, "The key challenges in HR domain are operating cost, Talent recruitment and Talent retention in middle level management."

The addresses by the various speakers were followed by an engrossing panel discussion, moderated by Prof Mitra. Some key issues raised during the discussion were the impact of technology on the HR function, the role of HR in propagating culture and India's IT outsourcing strengths vis-à-vis its HR outsourcing possibilities.  

After the panel discussion, a workshop was conducted by Ms. Gauri Sarin, President, Approach Talent Solutions where she explained the concept of Human Resource Outsourcing.  

The team led by Gyanesh Sinha of 1st year won the first prize in the analysis of the case study, informed FMS.
