Chairman of INX Media, Mr. Peter Mukherjea while talking to the students of Futuristix Media Communication Centre (FMCC) during their fourth convocation said that, people with passion should take up media as a profession.

Media he said was not just any other industry but one where only the passionate can make their mark. Mr. Peter Mukherjea was the guest of honour during the convocation ceremony of FMCC. The Convocation was held on September 13, 2008 in New Delhi. Diplomas were being awarded to the Journalism and Advertising and Marketing students (batch 2007-08) of FMCC.

Talking to the students, Mr. Peter Mukherjea believed that despite having so many stringers and being able to reach the audience within seconds of an event, the “Television News cannot survive without print”. He was referring to the fact that television even today looks up to the print for ideas, information and news.

Mr. Mukherjea told students that he was optimistic that the future of television news was very bright for some time to come. He said there would be many changes and more channels which are geography specific and genre specific would come up. Explaining the concept he said, there would be more channels dedicated to small places say a city or a state capital. Further he said some of the channels would become even more niche. He gave the example of a Gossip Channel, A Sports News Channel, A Crime Channel and probably a 24 hour weather channel.

Mr. Mukherjea was of the opinion that the television professional of today has to put in longer hours and work under much higher pressure. This he said was because of the stiff deadlines that they face and the 24 X 7 nature of the medium. If in a newspaper the reporter’s work starts mid day and finishes at night the television professional has to work longer hours with deadlines as stiff as half an hour.

Mr. Anurag Batra, Managing Director of Exchange 4 Media Group and Chairman of the advisory board of FMCC, speaking on the occasion highlighted the many opportunities that media offers today to the students. He said students are lucky as they have many options today ranging from Electronic medium to Print and further the digital medium.

Futuristix Media Communication Network (FMCC) has been in the forefront of Media, Advertising and Marketing training for more than 4 years now. Started by media professionals the institute has aimed to give training that would make the student industry ready. The Director of the institute Mr. Sajal Mukherjee has more than 27 years of experience in Media and has worked with the best known advertising agencies of the country.   Besides programmes at the beginner level the institute also conducts customised workshops and training programmes for major media organisations.
