Placements 2007 at IIT Bombay’s Shailesh J Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) ended with the institute’s best-ever performance! The average salary increased by 24% (compared to last year), and touched Rs 9.71 lakh. Nearly 10% students were offered international profiles -- with Olam International offering the highest international salary of $ 85,000. The highest domestic salary touched Rs 13.2 lakh (offered by a leading international SCM and retail consultancy firm). And 41 companies made 141 offers -- averaging 2.43 offers per student.

Prof. S V D Nageswara Rao, placement coordinator, SJMSOM, said, “The strong response by top companies once again re-affirms the faith of the industry in the strong academic program at SJMSOM. Students were spoilt for choice in terms of profiles and salaries and Placements Process 2007 provided a strong platform for them to launch their career in management.”

Pre-placement offers registered a huge increase this year as compared to the year before -- with 37% of the batch having offers in hand even before the final placements started. Companies like Marico, RPG, Wipro, L'Oreal, Patni, eClerx, Cadbury, Tata Motors, and Citigroup gave out pre-placement offers. Only four students received a salary offer of less than Rs. 8 lakh.

According to the placement report, first-time companies this year included CTS, ECS, Dell, Deloitte, GE, HSBC, Intel and SAP. And regular recruiters in the field of IT, FMCG, operations, banking and finance like Accenture, Citigroup, IBM, Infosys, JPMC, Marico, RPG, TSMG, Wipro and others came back to campus once again this time.

IIT Bombay established its management school in 1995; in 2000, it was renamed Shailesh J Mehta School of Management. SJMSOM has linkages with Kellogg Graduate School of Business, University of Connecticut, Hoseo University and Baan Institute.
