The Common Admission Test (CAT) for admission to various management education programmes run by the seven Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) is scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 16, 2008.

To help the test takers, IIMs have issued an advisory asking students to come to test centers before time and also carry no cell phones and calculators.

The advisory was issued by IIM Bangalore which is conducting the CAT this year. The test will be held in 23 cities across the country. According to IIMs, this year, about 2,76,000 candidates are expected to appear for this test.

Advising candidates to reach venue before time, IIMs recommend: "Candidates are advised to try reach the venue by 9:30 a.m. as traffic conditions are uncertain and sometimes candidates come to the wrong venue. Outstation candidates are advised to reach the city a day in advance and visit the venue to familiarize themselves with the location and time required to reach the venue. Candidates will be allowed to take their seats at 10 a.m. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall after 10:00 a.m."

Candidates are advised to not carry any cellphones or watches that have calculators too. Says IIMs, "During the test candidates will be allowed to keep with them the Admit Card, HB pencils, eraser, sharpener and a standard (no calculator facility) wrist watch. No other items (especially cell phones) will be allowed. Candidates are advised not to carry cell phones to the venue as these have to be deposited before the candidate is allowed to take the test and might get misplaced."

Seeking cooperation from stakeholders, IIMs say, "Cooperation from candidates, Principals/ Heads of various colleges/ schools and the general public is solicited for the smooth conduct of the test."
