IIM Lucknow hosts management students from Italy for seminar on 'Doing Business In India'

IIM Lucknow's Noida Campus hosted a one-week seminar titled "Doing Business in India" for a group of executive MBA students from MIP Politechnico Di Milano School of Management, Milano, Italy, on November 10-14, 2008 at the IIM L Noida campus.

The one week seminar focused on Indian business practices, features of the industrial structure, economic policies being implemented at the national level, understanding of cultural issues and the nuances of doing business in India. It included a series of interactive sessions with leaders from business and industry and visits to selected organisations to facilitate participants in gaining a practical understanding and appreciation of Indian business practices, CSR initiatives and sensitivity to cultural issues in the changing global context.  

The participants attending the seminar were executive management students with wide ranging work experience in diverse fields. The group size was 17, representing different nationalities and cultures. Prof. Ajay Singh, Chairman, MDP said, "The executive MBA students form MIP are from diversified fields and nationalities and the heterogeneous mix of the programme in India has been well received by them. We were happy to see their inclination to the culture and business in India." 

The seminar included a session on Socio- Cultural Environment in India, Macroeconomic Environment and Economic Trends in Contemporary India, Telecom Sector: India's Growth Story & Future Challenges and Development of Financial Markets in India. There was a panel discussion on The Indian Markets and HRM Trends in India- Focus on IT Sector. 

The "Doing Business in India" seminar also included the executive MBA students' visit to ST Microelectronics, Genpact, and Perfetti VanMelli facilities amongst the corporate sector. The students also visited Humayun's Tomb and learnt about the Conservation of Heritage & CSR initiatives by the Agha Khan Foundation. A visit to Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for a talk on Indian Economy was also a part of the students' India visit.  

During the seminar the students got to interact with Mr. Subodh K. Bhargava, Chairman, Tata Communication Ltd, Mr. Pradeep Baijal, Director, Noesis and Former Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Mr. Vivek Sharma, Head, India Operations, ST Microelectronics, Mr. Aadesh Goyal, CEO-People Strong, Mr. Asim Talukdar, Sr. V P HR, NIIT, Mr. Pradeep Kashyap, CEO, MART , Mr.Pradeep Gupta, Chairman, Cyber Media Group and Mr. Abad Ahmad, Chairman, National Committee Agha Khan Foundation. 

On his visit to India, Prof. Sdogati Fabio, Professor International Economics, MIP, Milano said, "We are happy to be in India when the Indian growth story in making news worldwide. Our hosts in India, IIM Lucknow, ensured that within the short time of a week, we were able to glimpse almost every aspect of business in India. We had a great experience here and it was nice to interact with the various business organizations, the industry body and even NGOs and to understand how to do business in India. We also had facility visits to Indian & international organisations and our students got to learn a lot from these visits". 

At the closing ceremony, Prof. Punam Sahgal, Dean, IIM Lucknow Noida Campus, said, "We are impressed with the enthusiasm of the students and their zeal to learn the nuances of business practices in India. The holistic package created for the students was a comprehensive week long capsule about our governance, policy and ways of doing business in India"
