Symbiosis International University will be holding its Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP) entrance test for admission to postgraduate programme of twelve Symbiosis Group of Institutions on December 21, 2008.

MBAUniverse.com spoke to leading test prep company IMS Learning to offers last minute advice for SNAP takers.

When asked how IMS Learning looks at last year's test, IMS Learning told MBAUniverse.com, "SNAP last year consisted of four sections- (a) General English with 40 questions (b) Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency with 40 questions (c) General Awareness with 40 questions (d) Analytical & Logical Reasoning with 30 questions--a total of 150 questions in 120 minutes. While the first three sections were evaluated on a total of 40 marks each, the fourth section was scaled on 60 marks (2 marks per question). Each wrong answer attracted a penalty of 25%." Added IMS Learning, "Overall it was an easy paper and an attempt of 100+ with substantially high accuracy level was recommended."

What does IMS Learning expect from the upcoming SNAP exam on December 21, 2008. IMS Learning expects some surprises in general awareness and reasoning areas. Says IMS Learning, "The physical parameters would be absolutely the same as that of the SNAP last year. It should be a respite from the league of difficult tests like CAT & JMET. While the verbal and quantitative part overlaps with that of the CAT/JMET (though the difficulty level is much lower), one needs to prepare the General Awareness section, which can throw some surprises owing to its vastness and unpredictability. Some questions on Visual Reasoning can be expected in the Analytical & Logical Reasoning section (there were 4 to 5 questions on visual reasoning in the analytical & logical reasoning section in SNAP last year)."

Offering its advice to SNAP takers, IMS says, "SNAP has been an easy test all these years. Focus should be on attempting atleast 60% of the questions with high accuracy. Students need to put in an extra effort for preparing the General Awareness section, which has seen a wide diversity of questions/topics in the past." When asked how students should prepare for general awareness section, IMS says, "The general awareness questions can range from the total number of "chromosomes" in the human cell to the creation of "Moonlight Sonata". An appreciation of general awareness from two angles will facilitate smoother preparation- (a) static awareness, with a dip into the formative subject areas like Indian History, Indian Geography, Indian Polity, Indian Economy, General Science and Literature (b) current awareness, with an understanding of issues of contemporary importance, special thrust being on Business and Economy."

The participating institute in SNAP include Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM); Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research (SICSR); Symbiosis Centre for Management & Human Resource Development (SCMHRD); Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS); Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management (SITM); Symbiosis Institute Of Operations Management (SIOM); Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB); Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology (SCIT); Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics (SIG); Symbiosis Institute of Health Services (SIHS); Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Bangalore and Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC). While the entrance test is common, each Symbiosis institute has its independent selection process. In total there are about 2050 seats available across these institutions.
