Greater Noida based Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) is organizing a colloquium on the subject of 'Security Environment and Indian Business' on December 13, 2008 at the National Institute of Science Conference Hall, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, New Delhi.

Panel Members for the discussion will include Shri Swapan Das Gupta, Columnist, Times of India; Shri B Raman, Former Member, National Security Advisory Board; Shri Satish Chandra, Former High Commissioner in Pakistan & Former Dy National Security Advisor; Vice Admiral K K Nayyar (Retd), Former  Vice Admiral; Shri M D Nalapat , Vice-Chair, Manipal Advanced Research Group, UNESCO; Peace Chair & Professor; Gen N S Malik, Former Chief of Indian Army; and Dr Abu Saleh Shariff, Chief Economist, International Food Policy Research Institute.

The Colloquium will address following issues:

·        The real face of Terrorism: The real issues of terrorism, people or country, result of own destiny or other country decision etc.

·        Impact of recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai on Indian Business: Objectives of perpetrators-destruction of India's icons-targets Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Pune etc. – aim to slow down India's rise as a major world power?

·        Is it time for a new paradigm on protecting India's economic interests? Is better management of security environment possible? – role of associating private sector in the exercise-scope for proactive measures.

·        What are the current, medium-term potential threat perceptions, especially for India's business establishments from security environment? Who are the players? Who benefits? What will they do next?

·        What kinds of defense options are available for Indian business? Fort mentality and firewalls? Dynamic and proactive defense? Trend spotting capabilities-What kind of Government-Business alignment needed?

·        What should the state do? Building up defensive and proactive capabilities-joint action with industry-building up favorable international climate through diplomacy and cooperation with international bodies and entities like World Economic Forum?

·        How to build national consensus?
