Backwaters 2009, the annual International Management & Cultural Festival of Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) is scheduled to be conducted on January 16-18, at the institute's scenic campus.

Backwaters has a plethora of interesting events lined up for all the enthusiastic business school students in the country. Many events have already been launched and have received a tremendous response so far.

IIMK Backwaters and TiE will hold White Knight, the flagship event of the fest. It is a socially relevant Business Plan Competition based on the theme of agriculture. It provides a platform for existing and budding entrepreneurs to connect, network, collaborate and bring about a positive change in society.

Lock, STOCK & Barrel, an online stock trading game organized in coordination with www.khelostocks.comwill run for 2 weeks and has seen participation from more than 800 students.

Other events like PWC – Consulenti and Cognizant – C-Strat will also be held. Besides these, Beat the Market, an online business simulation game developed and organized in partnership with Gold Simulations (a US-based firm) which attracted more than 800 participants last year, promises to be a nail-biting challenge wherein the participants will be making real-time decisions across all business domains.

Labyrinth, the online treasure hunt, that saw participation from more than 70,000 people across the world last year is going to get tougher and even more exciting with participation expected to surpass the 1,00,000 mark.

The Cultural Events will see under-graduate students showcasing their talent in the fields of dance, singing, theatre, instrumental, etc. The fest will conclude with Pro-Show, a performance by a well known rock/pop band thus ending the festival in style.
