The process will give weightage to CAT scores, prior academic record, work experience and performance in an intensive GP PI round.
Sharing information with MBAUniverse.com, Prof Saji KB Nair, Admission Chairman, IIM L said, "IIM L has observed over the years that students who perform well in PGP are typically those who have a consistently good academic record during their secondary school, higher secondary school, and graduate levels, besides exhibiting sufficiently high aptitude as measured by the CAT."
Adds Prof Nair, "The selection process accommodates the relationship of academic performance in IIM L to past academic performance, CAT scores, performance in written ability test, group discussion and personal interview (GDPI), and prior work experience." The selection criteria and weights given to various parameters are based on past data as well as on inputs from the IIM L faculty and other relevant stakeholders, informs IIM L.
The admission process this year at IIM L is a two stage process. The Stage-1 applies to all eligible candidates appeared for CAT-2008 to determine those qualifying candidates, who will be called for written ability test and GDPI in Stage-2.
CAT takers have to meet benchmark CAT percentile score to be eligible for GP PI round. According to IIM L, for candidates in general category, the minimum cut off percentage for three sections (Quantitative, Logical & DI and Verbal) is 85%, with overall score higher than 90%.
To draw GP PI shortlists, the written CAT scores, and other parameters are weighted in following percentages:
Components | Weights |
Aggregate CAT-2008 score | 30% |
Class-X marks | 5% |
Class-XII marks | 5% |
Graduation marks | 5% |
Total | 50% |
Short listed candidates will then be put through Written Ability Test, Group Discussion, Personal Interview. Alongside, IIM L will also assess the "quality" of both work experience and academic qualification.
The weightages given to various components of GD PI process are:
Components | Weights |
Written Ability Test | 10% |
Group Discussion | 10% |
Personal Interview | 20% |
Quality of Academic Qualifications | 5% |
Quality of Work Experience # | 5% |
Total | 50 % |
# No credit is given to candidates with less than 9 months of overall experience
Interview panel will consist of two faculty members of IIM L.
