Pune’s Symbiosis Institute of Management (SIBM) won the Tata Crucible 2007 -- an inter-collegiate business quiz for students of B-schools, engineering colleges, and other institutes.

SIBM was represented by Rohit Jain and Nikhil Narayanan.Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad came second, while there was a tie for the third spot between K.J.Somaiya Institute of Management, Mumbai, and College of Engineering, Guindy.

The event kicked off on 9th February in Chennai, and the finals were held on 5th March in Mumbai. In between it traveled to New Delhi (February 10), Pune (February 16), Mumbai (February 17), Ahmedabad (February 18), Kolkata (February (20), Hyderabad (February 22) and Bangalore (February 25).

Tata Crucible was started as a key initiative in 2004, a year which was christened the 'Century of Trust' year to commemorate the death centenary of the founder of the group, J.N. Tata, and the birth centenaries of two of its illustrious leaders, J.R.D. Tata and Naval H. Tata. It generated very good response in the very first year and has now become an annual event.

The quiz itself is a team-based contest (2 participants per team), and is held in three parts. Two – one for Tata corporates and one for non-Tata corporates -- are held in June-July each year, consisting of regional rounds in 8 cities, followed by the national finals. The third one is for campus students, held in January / February, with 8 regional rounds followed by the finals: this is the one we are reporting on.

According to Tata Crucible organizers, the eight winning teams from each of the regional rounds were – other than SIBM -- Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (represented by Harshavardhan Ketkar and Arnab Pal), Symbiosis Society's Law College (Suvajit Chakraborthy and Subhodeep Jash), Vamnicom (Siddharth Misra & Shivdas), Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management (Dilip Singh Thakur and Harish Menon), AISSMS College of Engineering (Nikhil Motlag and Dhruv Kottai), Symbiosis Institute of International Business (Ashish Garg and Shyam Satish), and Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (Rajesh Kalva and Kumar Vaibhav).

Quite a lot of Symbiosis, we must say!
