IIM-C Director Professor Shekhar Chaudhuri gets Bharat Asmita Award

Professor Shekhar Chaudhuri, Director, IIM Calcutta, a noted academician in the areas of strategic management, management of technology and innovation and international management has been awarded the Bharat Asmita Acharya Shrestha Award 2009.

The award was given by the Vice President of India, Shri Mohd. Hamid Ansari on February 3 in New Delhi. The award carries an inscribed certificate (Tamra Patra), a prize of INR 1,25,000/- and a Memento.
 
"Bharat Asmita National Awards", has been constituted by MAEER (The Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research)'s MIT (Maharashtra Institute of Technology) Group of Institutions, Pune in order to acknowledge the true contribution towards nation building exercises in the fields of management education, public awakening through effective use of literature, art, cinema, press, social service and/or NGOs & Parliamentary representation..
 
Prof. Chaudhuri has published a number of research papers in national and international journals and has presented his research in several national and international conferences. He has also co-authored a book titled "Entry Strategies and Growth in Foreign Markets" published by Oxford. In 1988 he was awarded a Senior Fulbright Fellowship at U.C., Berkeley and has also been a Visiting Scholar at Twente University of Technology, Enschede, The Netherlands, in the Technology and Development Group.
 
In the early 1980s he pioneered work in the field of Management of Technology and organized several MDPs at IIM Ahmedabad on the basis of his research. In the nineties he organized MDPs on Acquisition and Assimilation of Foreign Technology in collaboration with the DSIR, GOI; Japanese Management and International Joint Ventures and Strategic Alliances. At IIMA he directed several important MDPs offered by the Institute like the Management Education Programme (4 ½ months), Middle Management Programme (1 month) and Senior Management Programme (3 weeks), as well as customised programmes at senior and top levels for a number of companies in India and the Royal Danish Embassy, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
 
The members of selection committee of the award include Shri. T. N. Seshan, Chairman and former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, Executive Chairman, a visionary academician and founder of MAEER's MIT Group of Instititutions, Adv. Bhaskarrao E. Avhad, a renowned advocate and legal luminary and  the President of MAEER, Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, eminent scientist and President, Indian Science Congress, DG of CSIR and a Fellow of the Royal Society London ISE, Dr. Vijay P. Bhatkar, a World renowned computer scientist and father of the Indian Supercomputer PARAM 10000. He is the Founder and Former Executive Director of C-DAC, Dr. Yashpal, a renowned astrophysicist of India, responsible for setting up the first satellite education system in the country and a former Chairman of UGC, Smt. Ritu Nanda, a renowned social worker and entrepreneur and Shri. Rahul V. Karad – Convener, founder and Dean of MIT School of Government, Pune.
