Tips to maintain a healthy psyche and last minute tips during CET
By Mr Charlton Dcosta and Ms Khyati Mehta, Career Launcher, Mumbai

Good day friends. So you are all set to battle it out on Sunday, 15th of February when all of you appear for the Maharashtra MBA CET examination. The question that seriously comes to our minds during the last 3 days is: How to maintain cool during a competitive exam like CET? How do we maintain a healthy psyche? This is difficult to do as the mounting pressure and anxiety makes it difficult to stay composed. Yet, we need to remember that a healthy psyche is required to come out of the trials and tribulations of life and to face the challenges that life throws at us.

There are many ways in which you can keep yourself stress free. One of the best ways to be stress free should have been don't keep your preparation for the last moment. Make sure your fundamentals are clear especially on Maths.  Revise all formulae and concepts of reasoning. Never let your doubts pile up. Get your doubts cleared by your teachers or your cronies.
Do not hesitate to ask for help.

Prepare a study plan and implement it religiously and don't forget to reward yourself each day if you could implement your plans. The reward could be a movie or a hangout with your friends or family. Remember the new axiom 'Work hard, party harder'. The system of immediate rewards keeps you going on and doesn't make you feel that you are confined in a jail, the feeling that most of us have during exams.

Another stressbuster would be yoga or meditation. I know hearing of yoga brings shivers down the spine and, of course, most of us won't do that till we have options. Yoga is suitable for those who experience increase in heart beats or palpitation. Even a small deep breathing exercise helps release the negative energy, thus reinvigorating us.

Again don't forget to take a healthy diet. A healthy diet keeps us going one especially the 'the perfect blend' of wholegrains, vegetables, fruits and nuts. Especially a big no.... no.. is' skipping your breakfast'. Just be healthy. Eat healthy and sleep well.

Last but not the least 'Have a strategy'. Remember not having a strategy is like strategising for failure. Set your goals based on your strengths and set realistic goals. Goals shouldn't be such that it is beyond your reach. Practice solving some model papers and learn from your mistakes. Analyze those papers very well.

One Day before the exam:

  1. Just chill out with friends, go watch a movie.
  2. Get enough sleep during the night. Don't stay awake studying.
  3. D-Day tips: (Just before the exam):

During the day of exam, losing your calm is like a tried and tested recipe for a catastrophe. Remember that you just have to give your best shot without bothering about its outcome.

  1. Sleep well the night before. Since the exam is in the afternoon, you need to be extremely fresh so as to be in the right frame of mind to concentrate throughout the paper, keeping the competitive spirit of the test in mind.
  2. On the morning of the exam, do not touch your books and try to learn anything new.
  3. You can reach the centre an hour before the exam thus acclimatising yourself with the ambience. If you are not comfortable with crowds, you may choose to go a little away from the centre but do not be late for the exam.
  4. Carry with you the CET Hall ticket, black ball pen, eraser, pencils, sharpener and a wrist watch. Also carry a water bottle with you.

D-Day tips: (During the exam)

  1. Once you get the answer sheet (OMR), fill in all details correctly. Do not make silly mistakes as you will be filling in with a black ball point pen.
  2. Read all instructions in the question booklet correctly and use your best judgement in case of any problem.
  3. Once the test begins, kindly form a general strategy (improvise on the one which worked best for you during a Mock CET). Take 2 to 3 minutes to scan through all the questions. Ideally you must see all questions.
  4. Since speed is of essence during the test, divide the 2 and half hours as follows:
First Round (First hour) – All easy questions to be solved.
Second round (Second hour) – All moderate and difficult question to be solved. (Especially questions which require a bit of comprehending and reasoning like Reading Comprehension, Syllogisms, few Visual Reasoning sets)
Third Round (Last Half hour) – Continue to solve questions for about 25 minutes. During the last 5 minutes, you may intelligently guess and mark an appropriate answer since the test carries no negative marks and each mark is important.

   5. Throughout the time, try to concentrate on the test. Do not waste time on difficult questions.

   6. Your Mock tests should help you here. Move on to the next set of questions. Create a balance between speed and accuracy.

  7. Mark all your answers on the OMR sheet provided very carefully.

  8. Last but not the least, do not cheat or copy during the exam. Give it your best shot

Have faith in yourself and you can move mountains...
