IMT Ghaziabad, Nagpur hold Annual Convocation 09, confers degrees on PG students

The Annual Convocation for the academic year 2008-2009 of IMT, Ghaziabad and Nagpur was held jointly at IMT Ghaziabad campus on March 21, 2009.

The institute had invited Mr. Anand G. Mahindra, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. as the chief guest for the occasion. Other eminent personalities at the Convocation included Mr. Bakul Nath, Vice President, IMT; Dr. Bidya S. Sahay, Director of IMT Ghaziabad; Dr. Anwar Ali, Director of IMT Nagpur.  

Mr. Mahindra conferred degrees and diplomas on all graduating students of IMT Ghaziabad and Nagpur.  

While addressing the graduating students at the Convocation, Mr. Mahindra said, “The old order is changed, and nobody quite knows that what the new order is going to be which will make this generation first of new breed. The great challenge will be to wrest triumph out of what appears to be a global disaster, to build on the lessons of the past to secure a better future. The future is both daunting and exhilarating which will bring such exciting opportunities to see the world in a whole new way.” 

He further said, “Tackling these difficulties will test students’ resilience and courage. It will call for imagination, innovation, and bold action. And, it will call for a ringing reaffirmation of values like integrity, trustworthiness, vision, and good governance - which you [students] will have to restore.” 

While expressing satisfaction over the achievements of IMT Ghaziabad during the last academic session, Dr. Bidya S. Sahay, Director, IMT Ghaziabad, said, “The academic year 2008-09 has witnessed extraordinary results in our endeavour to become a business school of global standing. In the last one year, IMT has made some significant developments in the area of academics, research and publications, executive development programs, and consultancy. We have also further strengthened our international, industry and alumni relations. The initiatives taken to sustain the academic rigour and discipline have made remarkable progress at all fronts including the recruitment of highly qualified and well-known faculty, restructuring course curriculum as per needs of the industry, and by offering new and contemporary elective courses, upgrading online learning and teaching, enhancement of the IT infrastructure and library resources.”    

On the placement front, Dr. Sahay said, “Recruiters of PGDM 2007-08 have consolidated IMT’s position amongst the top B-Schools in India. A remarkable feature of this year has been the increased diversity of job offers from sectors such as Engineering Industries, Projects, Steel, Manpower Consulting, Pharmaceuticals, IT & ITES, Power, FMCG, Cement, BFSI, Process Industries, Hospitality, Healthcare and Telecom etc. Another milestone for this year’s placement has been couple of international assignments offered by both Indian as well as multinational firms. Students with substantial experience have got exceptionally good leadership roles which highlight the edge that the PGDM program has in developing business leaders. The highest salary offered was Rs15 lakh, and the average salary was Rs10.6 lakh.” 

On the occasion, Dr. Anwar Ali, Director, IMT Nagpur, said, “We have striven hard to inculcate in students the values of integrity, sincerity, hard work, and constantly striving for excellence. We have also worked hard to equip students with the necessary qualities of leadership, teamwork and a never-ending thirst for knowledge. You [students] go into the corporate world as brand ambassadors for IMT Nagpur.”  

While speaking on the opportunities provided to the students of IMT Nagpur to interact with industry stalwarts, Dr. Ali said, “In its nascent years, IMT Nagpur is laying great stress on strengthening the industry interface. Senior executives are invited on a regular basis to the campus for interaction with the students. The IMT group as a whole has been organizing one-day conference at Delhi to create more brand awareness and enhance networking with corporate leaders and academicians. The institute plays a very active role in these conferences.” 

While commenting on the placement scenario at IMT Nagpur, Dr. Ali said, “Because of downturn in the economy, this year, for the first time we have not been able to have 100% placement of our students so far. However, vigorous efforts are continuously on for finding suitable employment for those students who have not been placed so far.” 

Mr. Kamal Nath, President & Board of Governers, IMT Ghaziabad, was unable to mark his presence at the Convocation due to his busy schedule of upcoming general elections.
