SBI Chairman O P Bhatt to address XLRI convocation

It is that time of the year when students of B-Schools are excited about convocations as it sets stage for them to start a journey to corporate world.

In the line of convocations, XLRI School of Business and Human Resources, Jamshedpur, will host its 53rd annual convocation on March 28, 2009. This year, 180 students of the institute will walk up to the dais to receive their Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and the Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations.  

The convocation will be declared open with a presidential address by Mr. B. Muthuraman, Managing Director of Tata Steel and Chairman – Board of Governors, XLRI.  Mr. O P Bhatt, SBI Chairman, will inspire the graduating batch of XLRI with his convocation address. 

Renowned banker Mr. O P Bhatt is the Chairman of India`s largest public sector bank, State Bank of India. He was also awarded the Transformational Leader Award 2007. Mr. Bhatt  is not only the Chief Executive of India's largest commercial bank, he is also the Head of the entire State Bank Group which consists of 8 domestic and 5 international banking subsidiaries, besides 10 non-banking subsidiaries, and 2 Joint Ventures. Besides chairing these companies, Mr. Bhatt is also the Chairman of the Banking & Financial Institutions Committee of FICCI, Director on the board of several other companies like EXIM Bank and GIC. He was declared CNN IBN`s Businessman of The Year 2007. 

The chief guest’s speech will inspire students of XLRI Jamshedpur and give them insights into the business management issues including current economic crisis. 

The prestigious Sir Jahangir Gandy medal for Industrial and Social Peace will be conferred on Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons Limited. Incidentally, the event will also mark the beginning of the Diamond Jubilee Year for XLRI. 

Over the last few decades, XLRI Jamshedpur has contributed its best to the professional growth and management of innumerable institutions that serve the public especially organized industry, labour, service agencies engaged in rural development, education, health and other public systems. Besides the focus on developing managerial competence among the pupils through acquisition of specialized knowledge and skills, the Institute emphasizes the importance of developing a sense of social justice with right attitudes and values of discipline, dedication and commitment among all its members.
