IIM Indore holds tenth Convocation; Business-leaders, thought-leaders inspire graduating batch

The Tenth Annual Convocation of Indian Institute Management, Indore was held on 30 March 2009. Mr. S. Ramadorai, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services Limited was the chief guest on the occasion.

The pre-convocation function of the class of 2009 of IIM Indore took place on 29 March 2009. The pre-convocation function started with the Guest lecture on “Essential Learning and Circumstantial Learning” by Professor S.K. Chakravarthy, Retired Faculty of IIM Calcutta and Founder, National Centre for Human Values at IIM Calcutta.
 
Mr A Ramasubramanian, Chief Executive, Eicher Motors, The CV Unit of Eicher Motors Ltd, was the Chief Guest of the pre-convocation function.
 
Dr. N Ravichandran, Director of IIM Indore, in his welcome address said that the aim of every business school is nurturing the future managers and IIM Indore in its 10 years of existence has produced truly remarkable managers. He added that value creation to the organization and to the nation on a whole should be the sole guiding principle of every manager.
 
Mr. A Ramasubramanian addressing the gathering spoke about the current economic situation and how it affects daily life. He said that there are four important aspects of a manager’s life. Firstly, values are the most important aspect and basis of every business; secondly, ethics is the basis of all governance. Third aspect of manager’s life is leadership. Leadership according to him is value creation and its enhancement. Finally he said that the quality of the delivery of services to the customers is quintessential to the success of any business. The most critical aspect in management is the spirit of sacrifice. He ended his address by saying that “value creation is not about how much you gain but about how much and how many people gain from the value you have created.”
 
The Chief Guest gave away the awards and scholarships. The Kalyani Scholarship carrying an award of Rs.2 lakh sponsored by Bharat Forge Ltd., for outstanding academic performance in the 1st year (AY 2007-2008) was awarded to Mr. Dhruv Dhingra. The State Bank of Indore scholarship carrying an award of Rs.1.5 lakh sponsored by State Bank of Indore for outstanding academic performance in the 1st year (AY 2007-2008) was awarded to Mr. Kshitij Sanghi. The Eicher scholarship carrying an award of Rs.50,000/- sponsored by Eicher Motors Ltd., for outstanding academic performance in the 1st year (AY 2007-2008) was awarded to Mr. Prateek Gupta. The IIMI Scholarship carrying an award of Rs.50,000/- sponsored by IIM Indore for outstanding academic performance in the 1st year (AY 2007-2008) was awarded Mr. Kapil Bhagya. The CSC India Innovation Scholarship carrying an award of Rs.50,000/- sponsored by CSC India Pvt. Ltd., for distinction in Marketing & IT in the 1st year (AY 2007-2008) was awarded Ms. Saloni Jain. The Corporation Bank Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student was awarded to Mr. Dhruv Dhingra. The Award of merit certificates to the Executive PGP participants was given to: First - Dr. Arvinder Singh; Second - Mr. Nitish Sinha; Third - Mr. Anupam Chakraborty.
 
Mr. S. Ramadorai, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services Limited had one-hour interaction with a select group of 70 students of the Institute on Corporate Entrepreneurship.
 
He also had an interactive session with the faculty & BoG on the IT Industry and creation of TCS.
 
Mr. S. Ramadorai, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services Limited was the Chief Guest on Convocation and delivered the Convocation address. He, in his address highlighted the lessons that need to be learned from the current economic crisis. He said, "life does not start with a bang, one needs to build it step by step. Crisis is a wakeup call to India and the world, take up the challenge, there are millions of opportunities everywhere, and you need to take up right path."
 
Sri L N Jhunjhunwala, Chairman; BoG in his welcome address highlighted the history of inceptions of technical and technological institutes in India. He stressed the youth to draw lessons from history, act upon their weaknesses and develop a revolutionary zeal to stand out against the tide He told that Indian institutes should be more research oriented and the day when India produces Nobel laureates in science isn’t far away. He concluded his speech by saying that IIM Indore will always strive to produce excellent managers who are going to lead India to a better future.
       
Dr N Ravichandran, Director in his address highlighted IIM Indore’s journey entering into it’s second decade of existence. He chalked out a plan for the future growth of the institute.
 
In the convocation, 174 PGP and ­­ 54 EPGP participants received their diploma. The Gold Medal were awarded to the following students: IIMI Gold Medal for securing 1st Rank on the basis of scholastics performance was awarded to Mr. Kshitij Sanghi; IIMI Gold Medal for securing 2nd Rank on the basis of scholastics performance was awarded to Mr. Dhruv Dhingra; IIMI Gold Medal for securing 3rd Rank on the basis of scholastics performance was awarded to Mr. Prateek Gupta.
