KT Chacko is IIFT’s new director

International trade and monetary policy expert Mr K T Chacko has been appointed the new director of the New Delhi-based Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), replacing Prabir Sen Gupta. He will be with IIFT for a five-year term.

Mr Chacko, an IAS officer of the 1973 cadre, has been associated with foreign trade for the last 15 years. He has served as private secretary to Commerce Ministers from 1985 to 1987, as director, Trade Policy Division, Ministry of Commerce, and has held several posts with the Government of Madhya Pradesh -- such as Development Commissioner, Secretary Forest, Environment Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, and Director of Institutional Finance.

He also had a three-year stint as resident director of the India Investment Centre in Singapore between 1989 and 1991. During 1997 to 2002, he functioned as executive director, India Trade Promotion Organization. The last assignment he held was that of director general, Foreign Trade, for the Government of India between September 2004 and October 2006.  

The Government of India set up IIFT in 1963 as an autonomous organization. The institute focuses on international business and general management. Its flagship programs include a two-year MBA (International Business), a three-year part-time MBA (International Business), an Executive Masters in International Business and a certificate program in Export in Management.
