Convocation 2009: NMIMS’ SBM awards MBA degrees to 490 students

SVKM’s NMIMS University’s School of Business Management (SBM) held its convocation on April 23. Mr MV Nair, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Union Bank of India was the chief guest at Convocation 2009.

490 students (including 4 PhD students) from the Core and Focused MBA programmes were awarded the degrees.

“Though the current global financial crisis pose a serious challenge to the world, am confident that today’s enthusiastic and young talent pool graduating from the esteemed NMIMS University shall overcome it successfully,” said, MV Nair.

On behalf of Amrish Patel, Chancellor, NMIMS University, Shri BP Sheth, Vice President, SVKM declared the convocation open.

Academic review of the 08-09 of NMIMS University’s SBM was presented by Dr Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS University. The review mentioned that based on teachers, alumni, students and industry feedback, significant changes were brought in the MBA programmes, design and pedagogy shifts; setting the MBA programmes at par with international standards.

Saxena said, “Our objective is to develop individuals who are socially sensitive and impact global development. This can be achieved by creating global learning environment and education excellence.”

Last year under pedagogy shift, ‘case study’ based curriculum was undertaken to understand the real world problems and working on rational solutions. Also to facilitate a world class learning-teaching experience NMIMS University’s SBM’s has tie up with Harvard Business School of Harvard University for the faculty exchange programme and study material has proved a boon for its faculty and students.    

NMIMS SOM also shared that for Flagship MBA programme, the institute has managed 92% Placements, with highest salary of Rs 16.92 Lacs and an average salary of Rs 8.5 Lacs.

For the ‘Focus MBA’, the institute has achieved 69 % Placements with average salary of Rs. 6.8 Lacs. For the MBA Pharma, the institute has achieved 100% Placements with an average salary Rs 4.8 Lacs.

Nair, in his address to the students, also said, “Budding business managers and global leaders of tomorrow remain professional, disciplined, honest, respected family values, stay focused and confident when facing global competition.

Dr MN Welling, Pro Vice Chancellor, NMIMS University, offered vote of thanks. The convocation 2009 was concluded after Shri Sheth declared it closed. 

On the eve of convocation, outstanding students were awarded the Academic Awards and Scholarships during Annual Awards Distribution Ceremony, followed by Santoor recital by Padma Shri Pt. Satish Vyas. Dr. H. Joshipura, Vice President, South Asia and MD, Asia- GlaxoSmithKlin was the chief guest on this occasion.
