Common Admissions Test 2009 for entering the prestigious IIMs will now be a ‘Computer based Test’ on the lines of GMAT exam. MBAUniverse.com broke this news first on April 27 evening.

This landmark development replaces the 33-year pen and pencil exam that CAT has been. Commenting on the development, leading test prep company Career Launcher said that CAT’s new pattern will impact the preparation strategy of students.

Mr. R Shiva Kumar, Director (R&D and Academics), Career Launcher seemed excited at the development and said, “The decision of the IIMs to take CAT online is a welcome announcement and we are fully prepared for this new format. Career Launcher is uniquely positioned for this new format as we have already changed the curriculum and have invested heavily on necessary resources in all our centers. Our expertise in GMAT also gives us an advantage in Online testing. The new format will impact all aspects of student preparation and they will need to put in a lot of effort. ”

Career Launcher says it has been building and using online testing modules for close to 6 years now, which is an integral part of the SIS (Student Information System) that gives CL students an edge over the others to combat the new format.

Adds Career Launcher, “Through its expertise in Research and Technology, Career Launcher has the capability to generate tests of different difficulty levels based from a huge data pool of questions across lakhs of test takers. This is a boon for students and is very crucial in preparing for the online exam. With a huge database of questions graded according to difficulty levels based across a vast group of test takers, students at Career Launcher are adept for Online CAT.”
