The awards recognise leaders’ courage to make a difference in their chosen field
 
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow conferred the Lakshmipat Singhania national leadership awards to eminent personalities at a function held in New Delhi on June 10, 2009. The awards, which was instituted ‘National Leadership Awards’ in association with JK Organisation in 2004, comprises a trophy and a citation and is given to outstanding leaders and young leaders in different categories.
 
The national leadership awards for the year 2008 were presented to Anand Mahindra, Vice Chairman and MD of Mahindra & Mahindra for business, Madhavan Nair, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation for science and technology and Padmashree Dr. Tulasi Munda, Secretary of Adivasi Vikas Samiti, Orissa for community service and social upliftment.
 
India’s Vice-President Md Hamid Ansari, who was at the event to felicitate the leaders, emphasised on the trinity of growth and said, “The policy framework should work closely with businesses and other stakeholders to ensure inclusive growth and upliftment of the marginalised population.”
 
The recipients of the young leader awards were Gautam Thapar, Chairman and CEO of Avantha Group, New Delhi for business, Dr. BK Das, Scientist of DRDO, Orissa for science and technology and Ravi Rebbapragada, Founder of Samata Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh for community service and social upliftment.
 
“This felicitation programme provides a single platform to different iconic personalities. Enthusiasm, passion, devotion, vision, zeal and zest for their work have turned them into leaders. The awards recognise their courage to make a difference in their chosen field,” Dr. Devi Singh, Director of IIM Lucknow said.
 
The awardees were decided by eminent jury members including KC Pant, ex-Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Dr. V Krishnamurthy, Chairman of National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, K Kasturirangan, Director of National Institute of Advanced Studies, Hari Shankar Singhania, President of JK Organisation, RP Singhania, Director of JK Group, Dr. Jamshed J Irani, Chairman Board of Governors of IIM Lucknow and Director of Tata Sons Limited and Dr. Devi Singh, Director of IIM Lucknow.
