The session for the next MBA programme batch of students kicked off at Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon on June 22, 2009 with a week-long induction programme. BS Sahay, MDI Gurgaon Director, while talking to MBAUniverse.com, said, “Despite the recession and fears of lesser students wanting to go for MBA programmes, MDI Gurgaon has received a full batch this year. A total of 240 students have been enrolled for the PGPM programme, 60 have been enrolled for the PGP-HR and 33 have joined the PGP-IM programme at MDI Gurgaon.”

Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, Sahay said, “Like all other years, this year, too, MDI Gurgaon has designed the induction programme so that the students get to know each other in a better manner, so that the freshers get acquainted with the teaching pedagogy and adjust to the environment at MDI Gurgaon. The induction programme will also take care and help bridge gaps among students in basic subjects.”

While sharing the week-long induction programme details with MBAUniverse.com, Geeta Bajaj from MDI Gurgaon said, “MDI Gurgaon has also called in several eminent corporate leaders so that the students get a chance to interact with them and get an overview of the industry. Some of the leaders, who would be visiting our B-school this week, include SK Chaturvedi, Chairman & Managing Director, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited; BC Tripathi, Director, Marketing, GAIL India Limited; D Shiv Kumar, VP and Country Head, Nokia; and Pavan Choudary, CEO and MD, Vygon India.”

The Director explained that during the week-long induction programme, the B-school will help the students break barriers while undergoing an outbound management game. He said, “Apart from helping the freshers break barriers and getting to know more about the institute, MDI Gurgaon has arranged different subject tutorials. To help the students with an engineering background understand the basics of accounting, tutorials for accounting are organised. Similarly, to help students from non-engineering background get an understanding of quantitative methods, MDI Gurgaon organises tutorials in QM.”

While pointing out that the B-school believes in responding to the needs of the industry spontaneously, Sahay said, “Post Enron and now Satyam, business ethics is something we think requires conscious consideration. Also, in keeping with the needs of sustainable development, MDI Gurgaon believes in preparing socially conscious managers and is therefore introducing compulsory new core courses for all MBA programmes.”

Some of the courses that have been introduced at the MDI Gurgaon this year are: Business Ethics, Corporate Governances & Social Concretisation, International Behaviour of a Firm and Global Supply Chain Management. The Director also spoke about the case-study method used by the B-school faculty extensively. According to the B-school the tution fee for this year’s PGP & PGP-HR programme is Rs 7.80 lakh and for PGP-IM the fee is Rs 11.60 lakh.
