MICA beats IIM-A to win the national L’Oreal Brandstorm Finals

In a close contest, the team from Ahmedabad based Mudra Institute of Communication (MICA) aced the team from prestegious IIM, Ahmedabad in the finals of BrandStorm 2007, a marketing plan contest organized by cosmetic company L’Oréal.

The finals were held on 27th March 2007 at JBIMS, Mumbai. Speaking with MBAUniverse.com, L’Oreal’s India MD Didier Villanueva’s said, “Overall the presentations were much better than last year. The two teams from IIM A and MICA were on the top of the heap. It was tough to decide but in the end we gave the award to the team from MICA. It was a more holistic presentation.”

MICA team will now fly to Paris to compete against the national winning teams from each country and present their Marketing Strategies to L’Oréal’s CEO, Jean-Paul Agon and other L’Oréal top marketing managers.

This was the second year of Brandstorm initiative in India. The teams that participated in the National Finals represented Indian Institute of Management, Ahemdabad, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Sailesh J Mehta SOM at Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and two teams from Mudra Institute of Communications Ahemdabad.

L’Oreal’s India MD Didier Villanueva told MBAUniverse.com that L’Oreal saw this exercise as a way to spot talent from top B-schools and also a way to build relationships with leading institutions.

L’Oréal Brandstorm is an International marketing game that allows students to put themselves in the place of an L’Oréal brand manager and gives them a chance to strategize on one of L'Oréal's existing international brands. Since its creation in 1993, more than 23,000 students from more than 170 B-schools from around the world have taken part. This year, 35 countries from 5 continents are competing.
