The conference will see participation from government policy makers, industry heads, NGOs and leading academia among others

The CII will be organizing the National Conference on Skill Development 2009 -  Strengthening the Delivery System with the theme of ‘Understanding the National Skills Policy’ on August 4, 2009, at New Delhi. Talking about the conference, the CII said, “This conference is an attempt towards introducing the policy to the various stakeholders. The key objectives of the conference are to understand the ethos ad concepts, identify stakeholder roles for ensuring delivery and to ensure quality and relevance.”

The CII said that the National Skills Policy aims at increasing workforce productivity both in the organized and the unorganized sectors, seeking increased participation of youth, women, disabled and other disadvantaged sections. It aims to synergize efforts of all segments to reform the present system. The national skills policy envisions empowering all individuals through improved skills, knowledge, nationally and internationally recognized qualifications to gain access to decent employment and ensure India’s competitiveness in the global market.

Policy makers, both from central and state government; industry heads; ILO; public, private and international training providers; leading academia; potential investors in skills training in India; NGOs; and the National Skills Development Corporation will be participating in the CII conference.

“The years 2007 through 2009 have been historic for Skills Development. From the successful roll out of the ‘ITI Upgradation’ scheme, covering 1396 ITI’s, to the ‘Modular Employment Skills’ (MES) scheme offering training and certification for school dropouts to the setting up of ‘National Skills Development Corporation’ and approval of the National Policy on Skills Development have changed the way skills development is looked at,” the CII said.

According to the CII, their conference will focus on a few essential elements including national vocational curriculum framework, training of the trainers to deliver competency-based training, setting up of independent credible certification system and role of the National Skills Development Corporation. “The policy indeed is a fresh lease of life for refurbishing the redundant vocational education and training system, and benchmarking the Indian technical education system to the international standards. We expect this conference will help create a clear understanding of the National Vocational Curriculum Framework and also the role of the National Skills Development Corporation,” the CII said.
