A Faculty Retreat is being planned in November for developing a five-year agenda for IIM Lucknow

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow completed 25 glorious years in July 2009. At an impressive function held at the sprawling campus on July 26, 2009, the MBA institute celebrated the 25th year of its inception. On the occasion, Director of IIM Lucknow, Dr. Devi Singh, congratulated the institute and conferred awards to its meritorious students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Singh said, “I am humbled by the success we have achieved over these years and overwhelmed by immense support. I would like to say a big thanks to those who helped lay the foundation of the institute. I am sure that the sapling they planted has now bloomed. No one could be more proud than our distinguished Chief Guest, who has been with us for more than 15 years out of the 25 years of our journey.”

The MBA institute’s students as well as faculty – from the present as well as from the earliest batches – visited the silver jubilee function. Key attraction at the event was a picture exhibition showcasing the high-points of the 25-year-long journey. The function was addressed by Padma Bhushan Hari Shankar Singhania, President of JK Organization and former Chairman of the Board of Governors.

“The picture exhibition was inaugurated in the evening before the function kicked off. Adocumentary.— moving from a small space in Butler Palace to the present sprawling 185 acre campus in April 1992 and the setting up of the second campus at Noida – brought back the magic of the bygone years. A rich cultural program was also organized at the campus,” a spokesperson of IIM Lucknow said. He added that the documentary also showed the formal release of institute’s logo, which was formally released by the then Vice-President, Dr. KR Naryayanan at the 10thConvocation.

In his Silver Jubilee address, Singhania, said, “My association with IIM Lucknow for 15 long years has given me a better perspective of challenges and success. Managers need to know more and more about managing uncertainty, diversity and ambiguity. In this era of coalition, we need to know how the changing political scenario can impinge on economic policies.”

From a modest beginning in 1984, IIM Lucknow has grown into a fully integrated global institute. Within a shot span of 25 years, it now boasts of a sprawling 190 acre campus and is ranked among the best MBA institutes in India. It is also the first among IIMs to start an additional campus located in Noida. In our special report ‘increasing batch sizes at IIMs’, MBAUniverse.com informed you that there has been a rise of about 14% in the batch size at IIM Lucknow this year. While last year, the student batch size at IIM Lucknow was 326, this year it increased to 373.

Talking about the silver jubilee function, a student of the MBA institute Nagendra S in his blog says, “It is indeed a proud and memorable moment to be part of such an institute. Well, what does it change for us as students? Primarily, it will manage to bring the media focus on the institute through a series of activities planned throughout the year. Second, it brings us to a logical time frame when alumni are in strategic positions in various industries across the world. This would open up channels for further recruitment from their respective firms.”

Dr. Singh stressed on the rigor of their MBA programs and how the institute has grown in terms of MDPs. He talked about inviting all former Board Members, former Directors, faculty who have moved out and distinguished alumni at the next Board Meeting on October 9, 2009, for an open-ended discussion on how to grow and develop the understanding for research. He also talked about a Faculty Retreat being planned in November for developing a five-year agenda and about documenting the journey of IIM Lucknow’s growth.
