This article by MBAUniverse.com helps you learn all about ISB Hyderabad’s admission process, which is different from all other MBA institutes in India

The unique feature of the Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad’s one-year MBA program is its admission procedure. The admission procedure for the Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP) at ISB is organized in two cycles. The ISB has called in applications for the fist cycle already. “Due to the high volume of applications we receive in each cycle, the Admissions Committee strongly encourages applicants to apply in the first cycle as space in the class may be limited by the second cycle,” Amit Adilabadkar, admission official of ISB said while talking to MBAUniverse.com.

Admission in ISB
The application process of this MBA institute is completely online. “The application for batch 2010-2011 of the MBA program is currently open. The last date of application for the first cycle is September 9 and that of the second cycle is December 1,” Adilabadkar mentioned. Candidates are expected to provide all the information regarding personal, educational and work experience details in form of essays, he said.
The short-listed candidates will be called for interview somewhere around November and January for both the cycles. Talking about the venue for interviews, the admission official said, “The interviews are conducted in Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Telephonic interview of international candidates are also facilitated.” The one-year MBA program in ISB commences on the first week of April next year.

Eligibility and Selection at ISB
Eligibility conditions for admission in ISB are that the students must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years full-time work experience after graduation. “The GMAT scores of last five years are valid. TOEFL or IELTS scores can also be taken into account if the language of instruction during the graduate education was not English,” Adilabadkar said and added that candidates are selected based on four major criteria in ISB.
“The four criteria’s include leadership potential, diversity, academic background & analytical ability and work experience,” he informed. The leadership potential of the candidate is assessed by the recommendations and references included in their applications from their current employer or supervisor.
“Applicants are encouraged to describe their backgrounds and provide details on how they can contribute to the classroom experience,” said Adilabadkar. Since ISB offers a rigorous one-year MBA program, the educational background and analytical ability is assessed to check whether the student is fit for the program or not. “While a good GMAT score helps, an average score can be compensated for by achievements in other areas,” the admission official of ISB informed.

Essays
According to the MBA institute, apart from GMAT/TOEFL scores, essays form a very important part of the selection procedure for most institutes. Candidates interested in taking admission at PGP in ISB are expected to write three essays regarding their personality’s uniqueness, educational qualifications, and work experience.
There are three compulsory essays and one optional essay. “Though it is optional, we suggest you to write the fourth essay also as you can always add points which you had missed out in the first three essays. In that way, it becomes easy for us to recognize your potentials,” Adilabadkar said. He emphasized and recommended that the content of the essay should be provided by the candidate himself and not by any professional writer.

Re-application
Since every year a lot of national and international candidate apply in ISB, the proportion of candidates getting rejected is more than those selected. For them, the MBA institute invites re-applications. The admission official of ISB provided hope to the candidates for re-application and said, “We do invite re-applications so that you have a chance to showcase your abilities, or any other quality that we could have missed out earlier.”
For such candidates, the MBA institute suggests checking the GMAT/TOEFL validation before starting the application process. “In case the GMAT/TOEFL scores are not valid anymore, take the test again. Focus on the areas of your weaknesses and try improving the same. Don’t forget to write the fifth essay which has to be attempted specially by the candidates who are reapplying,” Adilabadkar said.

Fee structure and scholarships:
The total fee structure for the MBA program at ISB is Rs. 20,20,000 (for a single person). However, for a family, the fee that needs to be submitted is Rs. 21, 80,000. There are two categories of scholarships that are available at ISB. One is for the meritorious students and the other for those who need financial assistance.
